Iowa CCW ???????

Well it seems due to some family issues I may may (more than likely) will be relocating to Ft dodge area for a couple of years. I know Iowa is a commie state when it comes to reciprocity with other states permits, and I will have to turn in my MT permit when I leave. How tough is it really to get a CCW in IA. I travel for most of the year so getting into get specific training or must do's at the sheriffs office is going to be trouble some to set up but doable so long as its in the winter months. Also do I have to register my collection???? As I more than likely wont even see the place till I get laid off for the winter, as we will have a moving company handle the move and the little woman will be packing it all up while I am outta state working for the year.

Thanks
RJ

It all depends on the county sheriff. Up until recently, my sheriff wouldn't give a CCW to his catholic priest. As of the past few months, I've been told that he's changed his ways since he was reelected. Nice for a change. I just picked up my application and was told the fees are minimal. I have to take their CCW course and off I go.

Contrary to your perception, Iowa isn't a bad state. No, you don't have to register your firearms. You're probably thinking of Illinois. It's looking like they're going that direction. Also, private sales between fellow Iowa residents are easy and painless. Once a year, you need to get a permit to purchase pistols. It takes all of 5 minutes and $10. Three days later, you can buy all the pistols your pocketbook can bear.

thanks for the in put I am kinda used to gun laws here in Montana, I really dont plan on making Iowa a permanent home but I will be there long enough for me to warrant getting another CCW, as I feel kinda nude with out my 220 on my hip

mrsleeve,

Go here for the most up to date information on the Iowa carry situation. There is also a State map showing how each County Sheriff handles issuing permits. It's County by County here with each Sheriff handling it differently.

No Illinois registration other than in Chicago.

No restrictions on magazines or guns with cosmetic features either (except in Chicago and a few other commie places).

What do you think a FOID card is for?

Thanks guys,

Major: good link according to the county map I should be ok if we are in the ft dodge area, but it seems we are looking more toward boone and they seem to be kinda finicky with issuing.

Oh well only time will tell
