Introduced a bunck of young girls to some revolvers this weekend

I was down at my clubs plinking range this saturday when one of the other club members showed up with his three daughters AND two neices. Youngest was about 9 and was VERY proud of her chipmonk rifle (insisted I shoot it too! Nice gun Think I need one of these minirifles) oldest seemed about 14, the girls were very enthusatic about shooting and tring out not just their dads/uncles guns but mine as well (I had a 629, 28, NAA blackwidow, Airweight bodyguard, & a Rossi 511(Rossi version of a stainless kitgun in 22.) The model 28 got the most use first with 38's them even a cylinder full of 357's! they even ( 2 of the older girls) shot my 629 with full magnum loads - Their choice! ( I fired it first to show the recoil involved and show them how to hold it). they did pretty good too and had a blast! they were all enthoused too at the propespt of shooting my buddies Springfield M6 survivlal rifle. 22 mag/410 they loved it. Nice to see young people with a postive attidude towards firearms and enjoy shooting them.

I usually will try to do something along the lines of what you did if I see younger shooters interested in my firearms.

It's usually if I notice that they are interested, staring, drooling, but yet stand off a ways as if they are unsure whether or not to politely ask about my guns. The chances are higher that I will let them shoot the gun if they are well mannered and behaving.

I swear, on a few occasions I've seen parents who are there to shoot and they sorta just let their kids run all over the place like rabid squirrels. When that happens I usually try to setup down the line so that I can get a little space.

Good kids get to shoot the AR15s, SKS, and anything else I might have with me if the parents approve.

Bad/annoying kids on the range.... Well, those can be a royal pain.

Didn't mean to pull the thread off on a tangent. It's great to hear some kids got a rewarding experience.

I'll tell you it was a breath of fresh air

these young ladies were as enthaustic about all the different guns we had as Imelda marcos in a shoe store! It was a wonderful feeling and a lot of fun to introduce them to all the different guns we had brought with us. Yes they will make great wives some day. Now if I can only find a woman MY age as happy about shooting:rolleyes:

Maybe just as well they were so young, otherwise someone around here would have seen this as an excuse to use the word "nubile" again. :)

sorry nothing "Nubile" about them

these girls were young, just starting puberty at the most. Like I said GIRLS not women.

Women Shooters

Start them young on the right to shoot and defend themselves and their families when they grow up. As a Police Weapons Instructor I have had good success in training women officers to shoot because they listen and their "EGO" is not tied to their shooting ability and they do not desire to "Show Off" to the opposite sex.

Good for you and pass the word guys about showing the females in your life how to shoot with a reasonable starting weapon with low recoil and good for small hands.

shot my 629 with full magnum loads - Their choice!

What level of "magnum" load? There are luke-warm .44 magnum loads, warm .44 magnum loads, hot .44 magnum loads, and extra hot .44 magnum loads (the extra-hot loads feels like it wants to tear your hand off, and these loads are best in strong guns like Rugers). Some of the 300 plus grain "Bruin" loads I've tried are extremely painful, but OTOH the lighter bullets loaded to moderate velocities are very comfortable in .44 magnum. I'm curious as to what load the girls tried? Do you know the bullet weight and approximate velocity of the bullets?

BTW, I think its great that you got the girls interested in shooting.

gun girls

I recently saw 4 very profeccional looking women leaving after a range session on a ladies night. All were wearing nice business outfits and or dresses. And, it appeared all had their own guns.
Made me feel good to see the girls having fun and taking self protection seriously too.
I wish there were more like them.
Maybe I'll see if someone will keep the kids for a while this weekend and see if I can get my wife to the range. :)
