Interstate purchase exemption

I read on another thread about a FEDERAL exception to non-licenced interstate transfers. It being allowed between contiguous states that allow for such transfers. I checked Wi. laws and it's allowed but I can't seem to navigate Minn. database. Can someone please tell me or better yet, SHOW me a Minn. Regulation alowing me, a WI. resident to purchase a rifle or shotgun from a dealer/auction house in Minn. and bring it back to Wi. W/O an FFL on my end.

The "contiguous state" language was deleted from FEDERAL law in 1986 with the passing of the Gun Owners Protection Act... FEDERAL law states that it is legal to purchase a LONG-GUN only from an out of state FFL... as long as BOTH states laws are obeyed... it is and has been against Federal Law since 1968 to buy, receive as a gift etc etc ANY firearm from an out of state resident.

Neither is correct

The OP is misinformed about interstate purchases. FOPA has NOTHING to do with purchases; it protects interstate TRANSPORTATION by an owner legal to possess the gun(s) in question in both the origin and destination states.

The second post is fairly - but not completely - correct:

it is and has been against Federal Law since 1968 to buy, receive as a gift etc etc ANY firearm from an out of state resident.

There is ONE exception: Inheritance. The named beneficiary may receive the specified firearm(s) directly from the estate; no FFL required.

OK, thanks, I didn't see anything in the other thread about a repeal of the law. I learned something new today.

The FOPA was a complex piece of legislation that did a lot of things, including the traveller's protection and some relief of the restriction on interstate sales of long arms.

As to the question at hand:

A person may only acquire a firearm within the person’s own State, except that he or she may purchase or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, in person, at a licensee's premises in any State, provided the sale complies with State laws applicable in the State of sale and the State where the purchaser resides. A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes.

And you found it necessary to flagellate another person, from another thread?

Exactly why is that? So as not to detract from this thread, PM your answer, Ausserordeutlich.

Speaking of pointless criticism...

And you found it necessary to flagellate another person, from another thread?

How does a statement of fact made to clarify a relevant point in response to a question constitute flagellation?

Or has someone been reading "It pays to increase your word power" too much?

OK, maybe I should re-ask the question. I wasn't asking about a purchase from an individual but from a dealer or auctioneer. Both being FFL's. So, the question is with an FFL on the Minn. end of the transaction can I bring a long gun back to Wi. LEGALLY W/O a FFL on the Wi. end. Or do I need to ship it?

I don't know about where it states it but I live in Tennessee and have purchased rifles and shotguns in Kentucky. I go up to Whittaker Gun's near Owensboro Kentucky, good place and people, and pick up something every once in a while.
