Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please move

Obama's lasting legacy keeps moving along:

On his way out of the door Barack Obama will have wholly ceded over control of the Internet to UNIDO, (United Nations Industrial Development Organization).

When it is far too late for anyone to do anything about it, history will someday record that Barack Hussein Obama hijacked public access to the Internet before leaving office.

Why he decided to hand over control of the Internet, to an unknown conglomerate of “international stakeholders—held by the United States for all 18 years of ICANN existence—five weeks before Election 2016, remains a dark-sided riddle.

Obama, Hillary Clinton, the global elite and big governments at home and abroad will be able to surf the ‘Net as usual and will be able to retain their IPs, but the masses will be left on the outside looking in.

What does this have to do with guns? Sites like this could be deemed to be a threat to global security and made to disappear, along with online sales and ordering of anything deemed inappropriate

Seems 1984 has finally arrived.

Ordinarily, this thread would be shut down, as a conspiracy theory thread.

The problem is that there is actually some small truth to the theory - like the Y2K scare. What is actually happening is that a small arm of the Dept of Commerce is giving up an administrative control over ICANN. That oversight is being given to UNIDO.

Now I'm not going to go into all the highly technical (and to most of you, boring) details. For that, if you are at all interested ion this stuff, you can read the ArsTechnica article here: Y2K 2.0: Is the US government set to “give away the Internet” Saturday?

I’m not trying to get into the one world government conspiracy stuff, but I think there are certain people who believe the US needs to be more in-line and even subservient at times to International Standards. Whether it be members of SCOTUS, environmental officials, law enforcement or even the POTUS there is a desire by many to make this happen. As someone who believes in free markets and open trade I can see the advantages at times. However, we also need to be careful that we don’t give away our sovereignty and allow other groups to influence issues that are protected by our Constitution. When we look at the restrictions on free speech even in places in Western Europe we should all be concerned about this.

Al's answer is the correct one.

That said, I am going to shut this down because, no matter what the impact, I have no doubt that it's going to turn into one large "WE'RE SURRENDERING TO THE UN/WORLD/ILLUMINATI/WHATEVER BUGABOO GROUP IS IN VOGUE TODAY!" "discussion."
