International Humanitarian Law; Geneva; Hague

A number of questions have come up about the use of certain types of weapons, especially expanding bullets, what is the difference between the Geneva Law and Hague Law.

I think this site will answer most questions, as I find further good sites, I will post. Much has been made of the US not being a signatory to the Hague Declarations of 1899, but on the few sites where I found signatories listed, they were all Western European countries, and few of those, actually, so not being a signatory didn't mean much. In fact, provision was made for non-signatories who voluntary followed the decisions of both Geneva and Hague Law.

Let me know what you think. A lot of the older data are unfortunately not available in toto. Walt

This site explicitly states the position of the USA on the use of hollow point bullets.

Be sure and try to follow the rationalization. If you can. Walt

No luck on those sites. Erols wanted money, and AustLII said address did not exist. I searched around (not long, bedtime soon!), but didn't find anything.

Darn; must be my fumbly fingers again. I will try again tomorrow, and attempt to encode a hyperlink. Will probably ask for DC's help. DC????? Walt

Hmmm... Maybe it was my fingers that fumbled. I found the AustLII page today. Hope I didn't give you any undue distress about your dexterity.

Let the learning begin!
