I consider myself to be a pretty "non-radical" type...
It's interesting that a just a few weeks ago while driving my son home from college to spend a weekend, we had a conversation concerning exactly the subject of this poll.

Our discussion centered around my belief- that in my 50+ years on this Earth, that I have never seen our Nation SOOOO deeply divided...

That despite the "media" calling Congress "dysfunctional", I explained to him that this is exactly how our Founders envisioned Government...a system of checks, and balances. Gridlock, is simply part of that system until- like supply and demand in a free market- there emerges a clear direction.

Then the conversation turned to "What if..."
How far would some of us go, to protect what we believe to be the cornerstones of our Nation from erosion. Would we accept a "different" America- one where the Second Amendment were neutered by a liberal SCOTUS, among other scenarios...

I was quite surprised by the results of this poll.

Do any of you, feel this is as significant as I do?

Only 29 percent?

Let's be honest -- if the 2nd Amendment is neutered by SCOTUS judicial fiat rather than by constitutional amendment pursuant to the Constitution itself, then if The People don't revolt, the American experiment will have ended in failure.

Exactly... but to your point... at what point, have we become "neutered"?

Some us realize there is the death by a thousand cuts...an erosion so gradual, that each event is dismissed as just another "regulation".

While I have some certainty that this is why- barely- the latest regulations against law-abiding gun owners failed in Congress, I can't help but wonder now "what if" it had gone the other way. Personally, I had no issues with certain aspects of what was proposed. But in my heart, I KNEW I could not trust the so-called prohibition of the Federal Gun Registry. It's a law, that can be changed with the stroke of a pen.

It's really a terrible omen, that many- if not most- Americans distrust our own Federal Government. Can't be a positive thing...

The current government is still elected by and answerable to the people. As such, it is legitimate. To speak of overthrowing it is to speak of insurrection. More to the point, such insurrection would be a repudiation and rejection of our very system, and of our way of life.

We're not there. Discussions of it can't lead to a good place, so I'm going to close this one while we're ahead of that curve.
