Interesting discovery re: muzzle flash of 9x19 ammo

I just ran various ammo through my Kahr P9. The best in terms of lack of muzzle flash were Winchester Silvertips and noticably hotter Sellier and Bellot 115gr JHPs. Now, I am not sure that S&B bullet construction is as refind as the Winchester. However, it is a hotter load and might do as well.

The kicker is that Silvertips run $18-22/50. S&B is just under $8/50. Has anyone experience with the differences in terminal performance of those two brands?

FWIW, American Eagle FMJ and Remington 115gr JHPs produced huge fireballs.

Oleg:

My solution is to use premium ammunition for serious bussiness (such as the silvertips) and less expensive ammunition for training. A possible compromise is Fiochi 9mm. It is relatively inexpensive and they offer some good hollow point loads.

I have heard that Remington Golden Sabre have very little muzzle flash ... which Remington brand did you test?

Fiocchi 115gr JHP (9x19) was a disappointment. It had a big muzzle flash and the serrated jacket has caused feeding problems in some other people's pistols.

Remington green box 115 JHPs were quite bad.
147gr JHPs (green box) were much better. I now use them over the Golden Sabres which, though have less flash, are longer and cannot be ejected unfired from a Glock 17 (they jam in the ejection port). G.Sabres work fine in a Beretta 92.

Oleg: I bought some of the S&B hollow points and FMJ ammo. This was in 9mm 115 grain that I ran through a Sig 226 without a hiccup. My brother and I filled some milk jugs with water and gave the S&B hollow points a whirl. This was not a scientific test, but they did blast the jugs to smitherines. Pretty impressive with one shot on a jug. The only thing that I did not like about the S&B was that it was too dirty. I have never in my life had to scrub and patch a pistol barrel so much. It was not copper fouling but powder fouling. By the way, cheaperthandirt.com has Federal 9bp for $10.33 for a box of 50. My local Wal-mart sells the same box of ammo for $20.30 plus sales tax.
