Interesting blurb on my Colt Frontier Scout,,,

American Rifleman had an interesting blurb on my Colt Frontier Scout,,,
It's the "I have this old gun" article on the last pages.

Mine is the duotone version like in the picture,,,
It was given to my Mom by my Pop,,,
This was in the summer of 1965.

Me and my two younger brothers tried to wear it out,,,
We ran through a brick of shorts every month for the next several years.

One thing I noticed that interested me was,,,
The author said the barrels were made on Python machinery.

He stated that gave the gun it's high level of accuracy.

I do know that a friend of our family used to borrow the gun quite often,,,
He competed in local matches with it and won many of them,,,
It wasn't that he didn't have handguns of his own,,,
He said he had never shot a finer .22 revolver.

I just found it amusing to finally own one of the guns featured in that article.

Anyone else have one of these little beauties?

I passed up one of those several years ago at a LGS - it was "used" but like new. I don't remember what they were asking but it was more than I wanted to spend at the time - I was figuring I probably wouldn't get my money's worth out of it during what's left of my "life time". :D:roll eyes:

Now, I wish that I had bit the bullet and purchased it. But hey, we all know hindsight is better than . . .

I saw the article as well and found it an interesting read. It's nice that you have yours . . . nothing like something with great sentimental value to it. Lot's of memories in that Colt I'm sure.

And, like you, we went through many bricks of 22 shorts when I was a kid. Dad didn't want us using LR . . after all . . . the box said "Danger - Range 1 Mile"! :) But we sure took a lot of squirrels, rabbits and varmints with the 22 shorts. I wish they were the same price now was they were back then - 50 cents a box / $5.00 a case of 10 boxes (brick).

Great photos of a real treasure! Enjoy it as I'm sure it brings back many fond memories! :)

I forgot to add . . . "great leather"! I'm assuming it's some of your fine handiwork!? :)

Hello bedbugbilly,,,

I forgot to add . . . "great leather"! I'm assuming it's some of your fine handiwork!?

Yes, I made that holster about 20 years ago now,,,
It's from a Tandy pattern for the small frame .36 caliber cap & ball.

It was close enough to fit that all I had to do,,,
Was dunk the holster and reshape it a bit.

It's not period authentic at all,,,
But it holds the Colt rather nicely.
