JPFO ALERT: Perfect Example of "Reasonable"
Victim Disarmament in S.F.

Or, you can search the website, www.sfgate.com, for the
article by Joan Ryan, dated January 8, 2006, entitled "A
Woman, A Batterer, and A Gun"

The lady was convicted of unlawfully possessing a concealed
firearm -- when she thought she had a legitimate right to
carry, based upon the restraining order against her stalker
and based upon California's complicated gun laws.

Bad news -- unbeknownst to her, the restraining order had
expired. So -- she gets jailed, she loses any right to
possess a gun at all for any reasons, and she has lost her
anonymity so her stalker can find her.

Thanks a bunch, California "gun control" supporters.

Read the whole story in the _San Francisco Chronicle_.
You'll learn how "reasonable gun control" schemes work
directly against female victims of stalkers.

This poor woman lives in constant fear, now even more
because the State of California has disarmed her.

Next time one of your anti-self defense friends pipes up
about how great "gun control" is, you'll have this story
from San Francisco, the capital of "gun control" in the
western states.

The "gun control" advocates actually want this kind of
result to occur -- the disarming of women against
predators. They must want this result, because their
policies actually cause the result by their very design.

The woman has no recourse. Read our book, _Dial 911 and
Die_, and you'll see how American citizens generally have
no right to demand police protection.

We're on our own ... and too often our governments make
sure we must live in fear of crime without defense tools.

Why?

The connection with San Francisco's ordinance puzzles me. Re the lady, does she live in San Francisco? She was not arrested in San Francisco. San Mateo County is south of SF, as I recall. Mill Valey is in Marin County. Half Moon Bay, looking at an old atlas is in San Mateo County also. The strangeness of gun laws in California is another matter entirely.

This is a story that is sad and exasperating to those who read it, and bordering on tragic for "Rebecca." I was amazed to find a featured article like that in the SFChron.

Joan Ryan seems to have a conundrum on her hands:
The law against carrying concealed guns makes good sense. But so many women every year are killed by their abusive boyfriends and husbands. Restraining orders, as we know, can't stop them. The police often can't stop them. I don't know what the solution is.
If she'd let go of her feelings and just use logic the solution would be clear to her. CONCEALED CARRY SAVES LIVES!

Good job on the title, Alan! :)

Dave-
Agreed. From reading it, it almost sounds as though she feels there is only one class that deserves an exemption to the law...Battered Women. She simply doesn't make the leap to other high-risk groups like shop owners, single mother delivery persons, homeowners and the like.

The Blues Man:

Re your expressed amazement, maybe it supports the old saw about never being able to tell about some things and or people.

Assuming that Ms. Ryan is one of the usual media types encountered, not knowing much about arms, yet being convinced that "guns are bad", she might be facing something of a quandry. Unfortunately, many peole find letting go of their feelings, and taking up logic or common sense difficult, if not impossible.

Thanks for your kind words.

Rich:

I wonder what it might take to help her make the leap that you mention? I guess that some people have yet to grasp the fact that the words Serve and Protect that appear on many police cars are just words. They do read well, but unfortunately do not amount to all that much, based on both reality and court rulings.
