Interarms Firestar 9mm

I have a question for you folks...

What can you tell me about the Interarms Firestar 9mm? I know Rossi bought Interarms out and then Taurus bought out Rossi. And it's nearly impossible to find one new, but I do know where there are two. What is a reasonable price and do you think it would be hard to get parts/fix?

Hubby has a Firestar in 45 ACP that shoots really well, a little heavy, but shoots nice. He's thinking about getting two 9mm (one for him and one for me) to plunk around with and maybe carry.

I currently carry a Taurus Model 85 and tried a Taurus PT111 (I hated it :barf: !!) I'm fine with carrying the revolver, but having a terrible time finding a holster to suit me. As long as it shoots well, is reliable, and I can take it apart myself to clean; the extra weight is not that big of a deal. It looks like the size will be easier to conceal than my revolver.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance,

Firestars are very nice little pistols...they're a bit heavy for a gun of their size, but they're very reliable. I had one in .40, and it never failed on me in any way...tough little gun, accurate and easy to carry.

Star is out of business, so it might be difficult to get spare parts for it. On the plus side, you should be able to pick up a Firestar in decent condition for around $250.

The STEEL-framed stars are heavy, but they also made the Firestar Plus series, which used a much lighter alloy frame. I have two. Nice guns. They made a polymer framed gun, too, which was also lighter.

Star isn't really out of business; it merged with the company that made ASTRA weapons and still sells in Europe -- they just no longer export to the US. Their gun line has dramatically changed, though.

About the only thing that breaks for most of them is a firing pin, now and then, and they can be fabricated, if necessary.

There is also a name and address, somewhere here on TFL, of a guy who was service manager for Interarms (the Star Importer); he bought out the parts inventory and should have whatever is needed for most problem situations.
