installing a shurshot stock on a 870 express

i got my new shurshot stock for my 870 in the mail today. my 870 has the wooden stock and is just the cheapo express model.

i went to install it and discovered that the butt plate is smaller then the one required for the shurshot. (which did not come with a new butt plate).

the butt plate for the wooden stock measures ~4 3/4" X 1 11/16".

the space for the butt plate on the shurshot is ~5" X 1 5/8".

does anyone know the if the size of the butt plate differs between the 870 synthetic stock and the wood stock?

my friend has the synthetic stock on his and i'm been planning on trading him my wood stock/forearm for his synthetic since i will no longer need my wood set.

i'm hoping that syn plate will fit. can someone measure there butt plate on a synthetic stock for me?

the one on my Remington factory syn stock is 5 and 1/8 x 1 and 5/8 wide......... Where did you order the shurshot from?

i got it off ebay.
turns out the synthetic stock butt plate fits perfect on it.
i'm not sure why they make the two different.

Your ebay seller may have removed the recoil pad from them before putting them up for sale. They are supposed to come with one. At least all that I see from Remington come with one installed. But yes the wood stock is different size from synthetic.

Think Grumps is right. Although if I remember right, it would have been notably missing from the package.

A while back I did a review of this stock on my blog. Might want to check it the pictures to see if the butt plate I show was missing from your package.
Remington ShurShot Stock: Part 1, Install and Feel

I guess you could go buy a Remington Supercell, which is the plate the stock comes with.
