Another post with more info on "how to" check the trigger for safety - the slam-bolt test. FWIW, for the guys I've seen who've modified the stock/factory trigger themselves, they've had unintentional firings when closing the bolt with force. Scares the 'be Jesus

FWIW, Fred is coming out soon with a benchrest trigger for the Savage rifles that will go down to 2 ounces. Arnold Jewell also has one in the works for 1.5 ounces to 4.5 pounds - all in one trigger, alleged to cost $180 or so in 2003 sometime.
Be safe, when in doubt, have your gunsmith do the install or send to Fred @ SSS - he's GREAT!!
