Installing a cartridge converter

I'm thinking about installing a Kirst .45 Schofield converter with loading gate in one of my Pietta 1860 Colts. Who here has done that and what kind of work is involved in opening up a loading slot in the frame? I'm not afraid to go after the frame with a file if that's all it takes, but if it requires machinery, that makes me a little more apprehensive.

I was a big wuss and had Jay Strite do mine. :o

Labor as $65 when it was done last year.

Instructions say use dremil tool..file won,t cut until you get through that case-hardening. Jay has proper jigs & Bridgeport tooling..For $65.00, I'd go with Jay...Plus, he will do a terrific trigger/action job if needed.

You...you...you converted a Walker

Blasphemy

Get a rope.

Yeah, I know...it seems silly to convert a Walker that can hold 60 grains of BP as a cap-n-ball revolver to a .45 Colt revolver that can only hold 40 grains of powder. Before you string me up consider this.

p.s. No, I haven't fired it yet. Been bogged down with other priorities. Should happen soon though. There will be remote video footage. Stay tuned....

I like it Clembert:D

One alternative to those that might not know is the RD conversion cylinders that fit in most C/B guns with no tooling or any adjustments- and you still have your C/B cylinder. I put one in a short barrel 1858 REm and shot 45 long colts. Rolled it out and put in the BP cylinder:D

The long colts won:mad:
