INS to "honor" agents in Elian raid

Please don't turn this into a general LEO bash.

That said, regardless whether you think Elian should have gone back or not, an illegal raid with masked, MP-wielding agents running roughshod over citizens (including the press) is totally unacceptable. I hope the agents and officers involved are ultimately sued into the poor house as individuals for rights violations.

Arrogance rules among fed cops

I don't know if you caught this headline on Wednesday, but in case you didn't, the Immigration and Naturalization Service is planning to "honor" its "heroes" who "stormed" into the home where Elian Gonzales was being kept in Miami and snatched him away at gunpoint.

INS Commissioner Doris Meissner -- that smug little wench who legitimized the INS raid team's stupidity and sanctioned their actions -- will appear personally to award her agent "heroes" with plaques and, for some, bonus vacation days. What a great use of our tax money.

Such arrogance is nothing new. The FBI reportedly honored its agents who took part in the Waco roast, where some 80 men, women and children were burned to death because -- essentially -- Bill Clinton's government just didn't like them.

Federal agents responsible for Waco, Ruby Ridge and a host of other civil and legal violations of constitutional law under this administration have been "honored" for nothing short of murder and other acts of terror that would land you and me in jail for life or get us a death sentence. All, of course, under the false guise of "legitimate law enforcement purposes."

In fact, it seems, the more egregious the federal law enforcement violation, the more "honors" bestowed upon the mindless, SWAT-clad thugs who are wretched enough to carry out the orders.

In other words, this new INS "honors" ceremony is classic Clinton administration: "Not only did we win, but now we're going to rub your face in it."

Well, to hell with that.

The 131 agents and support staff (can you believe that number?) who will be "honored" by INS next week not only ought to be ashamed of themselves but ought to find some way not to show up to collect their taxpayer-funded bounty.

But most will because after all, as some Nazis proclaimed during the Nuremberg trials -- "Hey, I was just doing my job." That excuse didn't wash then, but it sure as blazes seems good enough for Clinton's mob. I wonder why that is?

Sticking an H&K MP-5 assault weapon in the face of a 6-year-old boy is proper, called for, and brave, in Meissner's view. Unless, I'm sure, she were subjected to such treatment; then, naturally, it would be wrong.

This is yet another outrage of the highest order and "the people" ought not take it lightly or ignore it. This INS honor-fest is indicative of a more serious problem -- namely, that there are sick, deranged sycophants running most federal law enforcement agencies these days, and that doesn't bode well for a nation that is supposed to be free of such federal level abuses.

Worse, this "gun-in-the-kid's-face" raid took place even as Clinton administration Justice officials are demonizing lawful gun owners for even owning firearms, let alone for "daring" to teach their kids how to shoot.

The bottom line here is that I am not interested in hearing "official explanations" for these awards, nor am I interested in listening to some spokesman robotically mouth off words from a prepared statement about why these awards are "proper" and "necessary." They are neither.

To wit, Meissner's own words belie any rational explanation. She said she wanted to be there personally to reward these agents "for a job well done." A "job well done."

No more explanation is necessary; we know from this arrogant declaration what Meissner -- and by default, the rest of the Clinton administration -- really thinks about these kinds of storm trooper tactics.

What is so typically ironic about all of this is the cowardice involved. Besides "gearin' up" a bunch of idiots in SWAT regalia to "snatch" a child, INS doesn't even have the intestinal fortitude to let Americans know who conducted the raid.

According to UPI, "Aside from the commanders, the only agent in the raid who has been identified was Betty Mills, who works out of Miami. She has been the target of threats from the Cuban-American community and required stepped-up security for a time. Mills was the woman who carried Elian out of the house wrapped in a white blanket."

Now, it seems to me that if Meissner and INS are so darned proud of these "brave" and "heroic" agents, they would be identifying them, praising them as publicly as possible, and holding them up as the "heroes" of the Clinton Reich INS says they are.

Instead, they hide their identities, shield them with "extra protection," and leave them in the shadows -- like tyrants do -- because they're afraid. But if they were indeed "right," then what is there to be afraid of?

Isn't that typical government logic -- "If you're not doing anything wrong, then what are you afraid of? What are you hiding?"

Unbelievable -- but, under this regime, entirely predictable.

Don't let Meissner get by with this. Or, for that matter, Attorney General Janet Reno; INS falls under DOJ jurisdiction. If this arrogance bothers you, let 'em know.

As an aside, Vice President Al Gore is a member of the regime -- and party -- that supports these kinds of arrogant, in-your-face machinations. And now he wants to succeed Clinton in November.

No how and no way, Al. Americans have suffered enough abuse in the eight years this administration has plagued us.

Not a general LEO bash. Good start though. You don't seem to be bashing at all.

I don't want to start this all over again because it's run it's course here. Bottom line for me is that if it was MY son that was being illegally held I would have been the first one through the door knocking reporters and anyone else out of the way.

It's not about Clinton or Reno it's about a father getting his son back.
MY OPINION ONLY. If you don't agree I'll check back with you when your kid is being kept from you.

Have to side with DannyO here, if the kid wasn't being held illegally in the first place...... IMHO

I'd have done it with a tank if it were my son being held.

While I hold no brief whatsoever for Doris 'Gump" Meissner--she is a disaster and always has been--the whole affair was a first class cluster aggravated by the Cuban community in MIA. Not forgetting the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 (I remember it very well) we have given Castro and the Cuban situation way too much attention ever since. Oddly enough we can overlook the Chinese involvement in Korea, which cost both them and us heavily, but have to isolate Castro until he dies of old age. Bull.

Personally I would have given the father the MP5 and let him sort it out.
