Input Requested: Fn Browning Argentine Hi-power

Does anyone have experiance with these guns? The Hi-Power is one of those guns that is on my "must have" list; I don't need to buy one immeadiately but these are popping up again.

The guns are listed as good condition, finish very worn but no metal pitting and ship with (2) 13 round mags. Built in Argentina under license from Browning & on Browning machinery, the price is $249. These are C&R, so my license will allow me to save the dealer transfer price.

Other than I know that I want a Hi-Power just because it is a Hi-Power (heck, I don't even own a 9MM pistol), I know little about them.

Would this be a good purchase as a shooter? How about a candidate for some fit & finish work by a good pistolsmith for another $500 or so?

Hello,

Your best source of information on HPs is www.fnhipower.com .

That having been said, yes, the Argentine HPs are quality guns. It will be money well spent.

There are several good HP gunsmiths. There is a list somewhere over on fnhipower.com.

Best to you,
Slabside

Definitely take a look at the page Slabside is pointing you to. There is a wealth information there and as much learning as you will need to become pretty knowledgable. Anything that puzzles you, just ask there and some great people will help you out.

That being said. Fabrique Nationale licensed the manufacture of the Hi Power to a couple of sources and manufactured them under (military) contract to many more. There are no real junk (ie poorly made, inferior parts, etc) HP's from these companies.

Some of the clones (argus) are even ok.

But, if you have a HP on your list, why not start out with the real mccoy and then let the other, lesser, versions be somthing you compare your real HP to?

If you shop, you can find a real HP for $400 or less. Not at any gun store, not at every gun show. But the deals are out there because there were a lot of HP's made.

If you just want a relatively cheap 9mm plinker, the Argentine HP's are a great value.

Let us know what you get!

the p35 is a true classic...and i think a military surplus one is more of a classic then the commercial ones.

there are several good smiths (my favorite is novak's) and lots of aftermarket parts from cylinder & slide

i'm just wondering....would this be one that the british captured in the falklands conflict and sold afterwards?
