I just got my P22 yesturday and am very pleased. It is of the highest quality. The quality you'd expect from a German company and Walther themselves.
The double action trigger is a little heavy, but not as heavy as the PP's that I own, nor that of a P.38. The single action is sweet. Breaks cleanly and smoothly.
The sights are less desireable for a target pistol. It seems that Walther set this pistol up similar to the P99 with a wider notch in the rear sight. This wider notch is a lot better from a combat perspective, but less desireable for target shootin. Maybe they'll come out with a different rear sight for target shooting.
For the die hard Walther collector: this gun was not proofed in Ulm. Instead it shows the proof mark from the Koln proof house. (A shield with three episcopal hats inside).
The grip is excellent. Modeled after the P99. Fits my hand like a glove. The extended finger magazine is even better.
I like the front slide serations. Makes it easier for a chamber check. Something I widh the P99 had.
I todays Politically Incorrect world the trigger lock is an interesting feature. It does work. Will I use it. Probably not.
The manual safety is typical European. Flip up instead of flip down, like on a 1911. It works ok from a holster, because you can train your thumb to flip it up as your retrieving it from the holster. If you have the gun out already, its a little more tricky, to me at least, to flip it up.
I also like the weaver style accessory mounting rail. I wish the P99 would have this style. It is interesting to note that the scope mount and other accessories for the CP99 will also work for the P22. I may have to get this with a nice red dot scope especially for this target model P22. The regular P22 may not need this.
All in all I really like this pistol. I'm going to go shoot it this afternoon. I'll report back on my findings.
