Inherited H&R 922

I recently inherited an H&R 922 s/n K17682. The cylinder does not appear to be one in which the pin unloads all 9 rounds simultaneously. The rear surface of the cylinder has a raised outer edge and the number 39 stamped both toward the outer edge of the cylinder and just outside the turning notches.

It has a one-piece plastic grip with a screw at the lower rear. I tried to remove the screw but it only comes part way out. It appears as though “thread ridges” in the plastic grip itself are supposed to turn the screw the rest of the way out but they’re dirty and will need to be cleaned.

In fact, the whole gun needs a thorough cleaning but, other than that and a few minor blemishes, looks to be a solid firearm.

Until now, I was unfamiliar with this gun, so any information anyone has about this particular make & model would be greatly appreciated.

Onlyaudio,
Your H&R Model 922 is a 1st Model 7th Variation - it is an early 7th Var. as it doesn't have the "all-in-one ejector - or does it? Soak the center of the cylinder you should be able to see a "silvery" band in the center on the muzzle end if it's there and may take some pressure to push out if it's been sitting for some period of time. The 'K' prefix pieces seem to have the feature - which was introduced to this model in "J" - somewhere around mid 1949.
When the stock screw (which is a "shouldered bolt") doesn't come out anyfurther - it means the monogrip is ready to be pulled off the grip frame. Sometime they stick (the fit is usually pretty tight and may need a bit of persuasion with a rubber mallet - tap at the top towards the back strap - gently.

Thank you very much for the information. After I cleaned the cylinder, I can tell that it does in fact have the all in one ejector. On the back side of the cylinder, the ejector is a different color. It still doesn't budge, even if I tap on it lightly, so I think I'll either soak it in Hoppe's or use Gun Scrubber before attempting any more pressure on it.

Thanks again for the information.

Except for PB Blaster.

BTW, those 922s are the most overlooked and underpriced .22s around. Give it a clean and it'll probably still be running fine when we're all dust.
