Information on Mark X Action

Hey folks,

I have a Mauser type bolt action rifle that was made with a Mark X action made by the Zastava company in Yugoslavia and imported by Interarms in Alexandria, VA. Around 1969, my father and I both ordered these actions with Douglas premium heavy barrels, mine in 30-06 and my dad's in a 257 Roberts. We made beavertail stocks with free floating barrels. They are both very good at making small groups at 100 yards - far better than I am any more.

When we bought these actions, they were fairly inexpensive, and I seem to remember that they were supposed to be a pretty good action with a pretty good trigger at the time. I do not know what kind of trigger they have, but they have no creep at all and do have a very smooth pull.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these actions and their triggers and if they are made today.

Thanks much,
Dave Wile

IIRC correctly the factory that made these actions were pressed into military service (and/or maybe destroyed) whent the warsaw pact collapsed. Think it all went down when the civil war in Yugoslavia took place.

Anyone else have anymore details?

Good guns though, I have three Mark Xs. 2 in .270 Win and 1 in .300 Win Mag. built several other custom guns on them too, never a complaint.

Back around 1970, McBride's Guns in Austintatious was selling them for $100 or $110, roughly. I started to build a rifle on one, but couldn't get delivery from Shilen.

yorec's memory on this is reasonable, SFAIK.

Wow Art, $100!

Oh for the good ol' days, eh?

I was building my guns in the late 80's and paying around $300.00 for a barelled action. Even that would be good now!

There is a thread over in General about Minimum wage and inflation and cost of living.

I saw an ad in an "American Rifleman" of the late 1940s for the Model 70 at $54; or around $70 for a Super Grade...

In 1970, my Weatherby Mark V cost me $315, including tax. Of course, in 1970 my salary as a professional engineer was around $850 a month.
