I just purchased this rifle and am truly excited to get some rounds down range. I know that is weighted and had a jeweled bolt. But I know little information about it. I've read a few things about the difference between bdl, adl, ect. The serial number starts with T62. i plan to call remington this Monday and maybe they can give me something. But I'm impatient :D

ADL has a blind magazine, BLD has a floorplate. Yours is DBM, for detachable box magazine. CDL is just a version of the BDL with a more classic style stock.

Not a lot made like the one you bought, I've seen a few made in the late 90's if I remember correctly.

There is a date code stamped on the barrels of most of them that can be looked up here.

They stopped stamping the barrels briefly during parts of 1999-2001. If yours does not have the code then it was made then, or the barrel is not original.

BU is Jan 2000. But also during the time when they supposedly did not date stamp barrels.

(*) On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01.

This might be one of those that the SN might need to be checked at the factory. As near as I can tell those were some of the better 700's. Over the years Remington has used several different materials for their synthetic stocks. Current stocks are pretty flimsy, but some of the older ones, while they lookde very similar, were made with stiffer plastic. That appears to be one of the better ones.

The only downside is that replacement or spare magazines can be a little hard to find and expensive.

Well that's awesome to here, I do plan to contact remington as well. And yes from what I can tell from the few days of looking they will be hard to find. I had been wanting one of these rifles for sometime. When I saw this one I just knew not to pass it up

Sweet looking Remy! Let us know how it shoots. 308’s are pretty easy on barrels but easy enough to replace if needed.

Any suggestions on which scope I should put on it? It had leupold mounts on it already. I'm also thinking about a scope finder. Any ideas?

Depends on what you'll do with it. A good quality 3-9X40 is a good all around versatile scope. A Leupold VX-2 selling between $300-$350 would be my choice. I like the long range dot reticle which sells for $350 vs the standard reticle for $300. You can spend more, but would have to get well over $500 to see even a improvement. I don't know of anything selling for much under $200 that I'd recommend. The VX-1, Burris FF-II, or Redfield Revolution would be in the running if looking for something less expensive.

I'm not a big fan of the windage adjustable mounts on your rifle. They will work if the scope is installed correctly. But they are difficult to use and mount, difficult to get the scope zeroed, heavy, expensive, and the windage screws are prone to shooting loose. But you already have them and only need rings so that might be an incentive to keep them.

If it were my rifle I'd toss them and use one of these.

I actually like the Talleys a bit better. The DNZ's are probably a little more rugged, but I think the Talley's look better and are tough enough. Either are actually stronger than the steel mounts on your rifle now.

I do like the VX-2, and I agree with Sorenson the extra 50 dollars. Just seems worth it in my book. But for the scope and mounts you suggested is right at my $400 price range! So thank you very much. I'm about to call remington and see what information they can give me from the serial number. I'll post what I find out

On SWFA's website is a link to their other website samplelist.com which has demo models and such. I have had very good luck purchasing scopes through them for considerably less.

I own a 700BDL in .308. It was my first rifle, and has taken a few deer and hogs over the years.

jmr gave you some great recommendations. I would also add to the "consider" pile Nikon. I'm partial to their BDC reticle for holdovers.

Another good source to find occasional deals on is Natchez Shooters Supply. Just be cautious about their "reconditioned" scopes. They only come with a 30-day warranty.
