Info---s&w380

If it's the S&W Sigma .380... BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!!!

Personally seen two in my life, both stovepiped every two or three rounds. One was owned by a Police officer who bought it for backup. He was a VERY large, powerful looking man, (not fat) and the gunshop told him he was "limp wristing". Second one was a buddy, and Sheriff, who finally offered to sell his to me for $50, even though he bought it new. He said "it jams all the time, but I figure since you like guns, you might enjoy playing with it, and maybe you could get it to work?"

We're not that good 'a friends anymore :)

I've seen several of them in my CCW classes and none were what I would call user friendly. Biggest problem/complaint was the terrable trigger. None of the students who had them could shoot well and each one I examined had lousy triggers. If memory serves me right, most of the Sigma 380s had function problems - either failures to feed or eject. I did not spend enough time diagnosing them to remember what the problem was other than a lousy design. I'd stay away from them no matter who good a deal someone offers you, but YMMV!

Smith & Wesson Sigma .380's

Even the company recommends discarding this
P.O.S. after about 2,500 rounds; and buying
another one.  :(

I HAVE ONE!

In contrary to what these fine folks are saying, I like mine alot!
It is a great pocket auto, very light, compact.
I also like trigger. I talked to S&W on the 2500 rd subject and they told ME the gun is covered by there lifetime warrenty.

I have shot one and handled a couple. I think it was one of the first "wants to be a glock when it grows up" guns made. They function ok...the one I shot did. But the mag release is a farce.
JUST IMO Shoot well

What I've heard about all of the Sigma and SWV series guns is: When they're bad, they're really bad, but if you get a good one, they're wonderful.

S'posed to be a crapshoot, as to what you get.

Some are discontinued. (Wonder why? Duh...)

DON"T buy a used one. (Why's it for sale, again?)

If for some reason you're lucky enough to get a good one, KEEP IT.

On the .380's:

The slide's made of Zantac. (Read: zinc/pot metal. On a Smith? Yuch!)

Some gunrag ran one for 3000 rounds specifically to address concerns of service life. It digested all of them without a hitch, and showed no extraordinary wear. Didn't even slow it down, figuratively speaking.

In conclusion, they're REALLY small, have a very odd mag release system, and seem to be Sellout & Worthless's answer to the Jennings/Bryco market.

If you want one, see if you can test it first. If it's a POS, it's not worth anything. I've never heard anything about their warranty repair track record, but for sure I'm not going to take my chances on one. Seems that when they're bad, you're stuck.

Note: thi is all 2nd-hand, opinion stuff, so take it FWIW.

All the negative comments about the SW380 are from people who do not have one. The only positive comment was from someone who owns one.

I own one too. I have about 500 rounds through it. Never jammed once. Accuracy is what you'd expect from a 3 inch barrel pocket gun (not too good, but more than adequate for the intended use).

Best of all, it weighs 16 oz fully loaded. Take that Kahr!

SW380 = garbage

I think several of the negative comments came from people who (like myself) owned or shot this particular piece of feces. Absolutely the worst gun I've ever seen. Jammed regularly on the last round in the mag. (yes, I tried different mags). Lousy accuracy, lousy trigger, no real sights to speak of, cheap materials designed to wear out quickly.
But, hey, at least it's cheap.

Rarely do I feel the need to come to a little helpless guns defense, but this is completely called for.

I have shot and handled a "good" sigma .380 for a while. I have seen a hell of alot more bad ones, not heard of, but seen than good ones. I generally have nothing against the gun..but dont
even bring up the name "Kahr" in direct relation to your gun.
Your weight comparison is like comparing a 200 lb gold bar to
a 199 lb lead bar. Yes the lead is lighter, barely.
You my friend, need 100 lashes and say 250,000 hail Mary's to Saint Kahr.
We expect a written apology to Mr. Moon and the Kahr company in general.
Thank god you didnt mention CZ's. I may have gotten alittle bit angry..... Sheeeees :D:
Shoot well

Well, I was going to politely ask folks here not to mention Kahr and S&W380 in the same post, but it seems others with good sense have beat me to it. ;)

I bought an SW380 when they first came out. It was 100% reliable with everything. I sold it and have regretted the decision many times because I can't find any comparable gun to replace it. Last week I found an NIB on the web for $199 and bought it. I should have it in my pocket in about a week. I hope I'm getting another good one. For its size and weight and the fact that it isn't less powerful than .380 it is a unique autopistol.

There's an old Monty Python routine, in which they talk about certain Australian table wines. (Which, I understand, are now pretty good...)

They speak of a wine that is NOT for drinking; its a wine for laying down and avoiding.

The same, slightly revised, can be said of the S&W .380: its not a gun for shooting; its a gun for laying down and avoiding...
