Hi all,

I just purchased an 1877 model Colt Double Action Thunderer, serial number 61XXX. It is nickel-plated, however, flaking off quite a bit. This is a short-barrel'd "sheriff's model" without the hand ejector. I believe a 3.5 inch barrel.

I've been trying to determine a "born-on" date, but can't seem to find a serial number look-up Web site. Is anyone familiar with this particular revolver that can tell me anything regarding it or point me to a research Web site?

Also, any idea on relative value?

Thank you! :)

I hope you didn't buy it for an investment. The 41 Colt is obsolete and difficult to find at all. The Thunderers are a weak and fragile double action, I wouldn't plan on shooting it. The prices vary. I have seen them for as little as $200.00. Alaskan models could hit $1000.00. Condition and the usual apply. I think you have a good wallhanger.

I hadn't planned on shooting it. I do also understand that the 41 Colt is pretty difficult to find any ammunition for.

Any idea on manufacture date?

Thanks for the response.

Call Colt

I have called Colt before and they will tell you what year it was made, if they have the records. But more details from them will cost you big bucks in the form of a factory letter.
