Can anyone help me on the price of this Smith And Wesson 27-2 357 Mag. It has a 6'' barrel and has never been fired. Has wooden display box but no papers. I have looked online and people are asking anywhere from $800 to $1500.Thanks so much for any info

An answer depends on whether you are selling one or buying one, and what you're going to do with it if buying. If it's going to be a shooter, it's going to lose any collector value once you shoot it, so around $800 would be all I'd be willing to spend. If you're selling, of course you'd want to get the highest price you can.

If it is truly unfired I would say around $12-1300. If it had a more desirable barrel length it would be higher. You won't find a nicer revolver than a 27-2

I own the S&W already and have for almost 25 years. Was just trying to get a sell price or trade value on it. Like I said $800-$1500 is a big differance.

Get into the completed sales section of Gun Broker and see what people are actually getting for similar condition and extras.

If it's in great shape it could be worth more than you think.

You can ask whatever you want and see what happens. It's nearly impossible to simply say "This gun is worth THIS exact amount" as there are so many variables.

The 6" is the most common and generally speaking the longer the barrel the lower the selling price. The 3.5" version is the sexy one that everyone wants. The selling prices you checked, all 6" guns? Must compare apples to apples. The shorter guns will bring more.

If unfired in the case it may do well on Gunbroker. There are people looking for unfired Smiths. If you want to sell it put in on GB with at least 12 photos (they love photos) from every angle and I would start it at $800. If two bidders with deep pockets decide they want it then you will do very well.

27-2 nickel 6" ....in my area ( with no significant handling marks on it / grips are not scratched up / screws are not all "buggered up" )....will sell for around $1,000. ( Box doesn't add much, if any, value to most of us - if we are going to treat the gun as a shooter ).

Price might go up a little/ + $100 or so ...if its really pristine....

It will go down significantly ..if it has handling marks on it - $ 200 or so / or any dings in the plating will really reduce the price - $ 500 or more.....
-----------------------
You're seeing a wide range of prices...because the older model 27's are found in a wide variety of conditions / the 6" in this model is not the most desirable / but its more desirable than the 8 3/8" barrel. The guns in very good condition in 4" barrels will demand a premium price in my area.

Don't undervalue the box.

There is always a market for boxes.......guys with new-looking guns and no box want them bad.

A lot of boxes got destroyed or just thrown away.

Unfired that would be tagged around 1500.00 at my LGS.

It would move for 10% less.

You can ask whatever you want. You can always come down. You can't go up.
