Was wondering if anyone can give me some info on the Sig p226 I'm really thinking of getting that pistol I seen used prices it was 700 to 800 how much is it new

Depends on which model/s you are looking at.

I really like the SRT (reset) on the 226. Not all of them have it from the factory but, can be added.

Lots of very good information at Sigforum dot com and the sig website, sigsauer dot com.

The 226's go from list prices of $1K to $3K, discounts and specials depend on the retailer, but 10-15% is pretty common, sometimes 20%, often at Grabagun dot com. The Mastershop series of guns are amazing weapons, very smooth and precise, but pretty expensive, typically in the $1.5K-4K retail, if you can find them.

The 226 is one pistol I'm a big fan of buying used. Try to find one of the older ones from the early to mid 90's.

There are currently over 20 model of the 226 ...and quite a few more around, still new in box, that are no longer offered....

Personally I like the all stainless versions of the 226 in 9mm and .40 S&W...but they'll be a little more money.../ but there are some around used...

Getting a used / CPO P226 is not very hard to do. You can find CPO P226s for under $600. Were I buying a new P-series, and were able to drop a grand on a handgun, I would take a long, hard look at the Legion series. The Legion pistols, though marketed in a fashion that might make even HK's elitist marketing blanch, combine the best features of their various editions of the P-series handguns. I was very, very ready to roll my eyes at yet another flavor of the P226/P229, but when I actually had the thing in my hands, I was blown away. Sig got it right in a very particular, hard to find way. The Legion P229 feels slim and light like the P228/M11A1, has an abbreviated beaver tail that makes getting a high tang grip a breeze--something that I didn't know that I needed until I held the Legion pistol; I was never a fan of the full beavertail on the Elite series--and generally feels like a custom shop gun. Excellent firearm, and had I the cash, I'd grab one.

I bought one of the CPO versions several years ago for $550. The only way I could tell it wasn't new was the red box it came in. If I had to pay full price for a new one I'd just stick with my Glock. For $550 it is well worth it.

I only gave $650 for mine when I bought it new three or so years ago. Judging by the prices mentioned so far I'm guessing they've gone up.

I have two of the X-Series models, X-5 L1 and X-6 L1. Expensive, but worth it. Had a X-5 Competition model for almost two years; it was as good as the X-5 L1. Traded to get the adjustable trigger of the X-5 L1.
