I have an older friend who traded for a Sears and Roebuck 30-06. He was telling me about how anything with the "sears and roebuck" name on it was very very old. He is curious to find out the company that actually made the rifle for sears and roebuck so im the middle man trying to help him out.
The butt plate is plastic with a cirlce insignia with "SEARS" inside it, the stock is plain - lite stained...and the receiver is not polished, almost a satin color...the front site is a ramp front with a small fold down rear. The gun looks like it isnt too old, or either it has been very well taken care of.
On the barrel under where it says "sears and roebuck" is a number: 273.532780...and the serial number on the receiver is U163XXX. Can anyone give me any insight on who made the gun and the build date?

Thanks

Remmy, the Winchester Model 70A was made from 1972-1978. This was a more economical version of the standard Model 70 having no hinged floorplate or forend tip.
