SPRINGFIELD ARMORY – The big news here of course is the XD pistol that we have known as the HS2000. SA has them in the original 4” version as well as the new 5” model. It will be available in .40 and .357 soon. The compact versions and .45 ACP version are still in the works and they hope to have them ready for the public within 2-3 years. As far as the 1911 series of pistols, they are available in .40, 10mm, and 9x23, but it would be a special order item through the custom shop.

What do you guys think about a 5" XD?

Do you think there will be an improvement in accuracy and lower recoil?

I handled one at my dealers the other day. I have to say, I was impressed with the light weight, pointability, and smooth trigger. But I was put off by the stupid grip safety. I like the pistol, but having a Glock 17 and 19, I passed it up. What is the point? Still, it is less expensive than a Glock, and if I were looking for a decent 9mm semi-auto for around 400 bucks, I think this Croation creation would do the job.

Its a copy with a little more bells and whistles..

Copy, schmopy.

The XD-40 I shot is a fine pistol worthy of being considered on its' own merits. Crying "Glock copy!" is as silly as saying "Never send tupperware to do steel's job!".

Tried the guns during the PMC shoot prior to Shot Show. The guns worked without any malfunctions after thousands of rounds without cleaning. Me and a few hundred others abused these guns all day. Gun is worthy of its asking price.

It's not a Glock knock off!

Copy? Just because of the plastic frame and silly trigger "safety"?
Glock popularized polymer frames in handguns, but certainly did not introduce them.
The less said about that trigger design, the better.
I can't think of a production handgun that does not borrow from previous designs. Even the venerable 1911 is based on previous JMB designs. Does that make all of them copies?

GLOCK's SUCK

Sheez, I've heard that a few times. In actuality, the XD borrows more from Browning than Gaston Glock. The tilting barrel system is JMB and the Frame Construction has more to do with Remington (Nylon 66 anybody?) and H&K (VP-70) than with Glocks. IIRC, it was Sig that came up with the enlarged rear of the barrel locking in Ejection port model. Striker fired weapons have been around longer than dirt. Heck, I'm not sure the trigger safety is even his idea.

How derivative.

I got to hold one today in a shop near home. It was a SA XD in .40. It seemed to me to have a good balance and smooth trigger. There was also a SA XD in 9mm. Both were going for $469.00. The Glock(s) 19/26 next to it were $499 FYI. Would like to see one in 5" barrel and compare the heft of it.

I continue to read here and elsewhere that Beretta and SW 9mm mags can be modified to fit into the XD/HS2000. Having a Beretta 9mm, that would be convienent that I could use same mags in both guns. Is anyone currently modifying 9mm mags to fit into the XD? Like they did with the Cougar/92 mags?

Mike

Mike, lots of we HS/XD owners have modified mags. The how-to is posted on the HS forum. I used the S&W 59s. For $12.99 from CDNN I get a hi-cap with a little work.

I handled the XD at SHOT. I was pretty impressed. Springfield is really pushing these hard, and it was kind of interesting to see all of the excited dealers there who had never even heard of the HS 2000 signing up to get XDs. (And I got to meet Rob Leatham) :)

The 5 inch has a little bit different heft, and it feels good. They also have the gun with a OD green frame as well.

I can give one really good reason why a grip safety is a good thing. When you reholster your weapon, remove your thumb from the grip and place it on the rear of the slide. (kind of like most SA auto shooters do to put your thumb between the hammer and firing pin) This will deactivate the grip safety. That way if there is some untucked shirt or something protruding into your holster it will not bunch up against the trigger as you shove it into the holster.

Speaking with a holster manufacturer (hey Scott :) ) at SHOT, that is the biggest reason most of the new kydex holsters have shirt guards. There have been two AD's at Gunsite caused by shirts pulling the trigger.

My personal prediction is that the XD is going to start to steal some serious market share in the plastic fantastic market. Good product and solid marketing.

Compact XD coming

The shot show report I read over at Glock Talk said a Compact XD
was planned for realease in the next 2 or 3 years.....................................................................
I want one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a HS2000 Gen 3 and sold it because it jammed to much using all kinds of ammo so I traded it for a SIG 225 which is a great pistol... At the time HS Arms had no spare parts and I got scared and traded it. In retrospect if I had known SA was coming into the picture and honoring warranties I might have kept it . It is a good design
I wish them well, and I will buy a compact XD when the are released

I also see a trend to the saftey features included on the XD to appear on other guns. And I believe more compact carry pistol in 9mm and .40 and 45 will start to appear on the market with these features.

I'm starting to get annoyed at the idea that every new firearm with a plastic frame is nothing but a Glock copy. That makes about as much sense as saying that every single weapon out there with a tilting barrel is a 1911 copy!

The HS2000/XD looks just enough like a Glock to fool the ignorant. That's sort of like how every rifle with an extended magazine is an AK-47 to them.

Yahoooooo! 5" XD

I am personally excited about the XD and a new 5" model. I contacted SA a couple weeks ago reference the XD. I am not a Glock fan, but feel very comfortable with the grip and TRIGGER ACTION on the XD. I would rather have the 5" barrel for my interests...competition shooting. Not a Concealed Carry fan, so the 4" barrel does little for me. I also like the additional caliber information from the custom shop. About time 10mm made a comeback in the 1911A1. Dan Wesson is in their first production run of Pointman Majors in 10mm.......at the same price as their 45ACP's.
