Info on gun and ammo shortages

I saw this on facebook recently and thought it would be worth passing along. It was posted by Valley Guns gun store in West Virginia.


Jan 25 2013 Attention F.B. fans: to follow will be several IMPORTANT Info updates about the status of the gun industry currently, followed by an INVENTORY UPDATE: 1) We traveled to Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages, here's what we were told. Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages. RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days. FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1. Remington-Maxed out! Armalite: Maxed out. DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product. COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's. LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels. Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind. AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rnds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line. MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quanties of magpul anytime soon. RELOADERS!!!! ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes....it could be 6-9 months b/f things get caught up. Sorry for the bleek news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Nationwide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 month? Wow, It's worse than I thought.
 
These shortage estimates only apply if people continue buying as they are now. Back in 2009 we had the same predictions but suddenly one day people decided they either had enough or there wasn't a reason to be worried anymore. It didn't take long after that for the shelves to be full.

Yeah, but it took a full year from the time it started till ammo was readily available again.
I'd bought my first 9mm in Aug. of 09 (9 months after it started) and could not find any ammo or components to reload for it for at least a couple more months.

Gun and Ammo Shortages?

In the interest of helping out an unarmed person in need, I have a Hi-Point 995 Carbine and a Hi-Point C9 pistol that I will relunctantly sale for a very reasonable $15,000. I will even include a box of 250 rounds of FMJ 9mm ammo! :D :D :D :cool: :eek:

Transaction must go through a California FFL. :p
 
Thanks for the post southjk. I expected a run on semi-automatic rifles (I refuse to use the term "a**ault weapon". But I have been surprised at how fast people have been grabbing up ammo. Even .22lr is being scooped up as quickly as it is put on the shelves. I hope everyone calms down and this is all behind us in 6-9 months but somehow, I don't think it will be completely over until Obama is out of office.
 
I've only owned guns for a couple years, and I guess I've always took it for granted that I could just stop by wal-mart/LGS/bass pro and pick up ammo on the way to the range. SD ammo and some 22lr is the only thing I keep around. After seeing how that can change very quickly this will NOT happen to me again. When it's available I will have 1000rnds of 7.62x39, 1000 of 40 and lots more 22lr at all times!
 
ammo shortage

just had a so-called friend try to sell me 1200 rounds of OLD 22 for 18 cents a round. time may come but it aint now. :eek:
 
I think the worst of it is over (at least where I live, VA). There is a Nations Gun Show going on this weekend - Georgia Arms had the most trafficked section. Georgia Arms had a 500 round limit on ammo purchases (everyone willing to wait on Friday probably got what they wanted). The guy that sells reloading supplies was letting people buy as many bullets and powder as they wanted but primers were only sold in an equivalent amount to non-primer purchases. I think the limits on loaded ammo and primers have helped tremendously on the supply for everyone. If it weren't for the limits, I'm sure someone would have bought everything at the opening.
 
Meant to mention above that I've also seen 223/5.56 ammo in the Wal-Mart across the parking lot from the Gun Show. Wal-Mart has a 3 box limit. No limit, no ammo.
 
MrDontPlay, I found 1000rd cases of .40 in stock here yesterday and I bought one. Hopefully it wasn't the last of them. I have been looking for them for a while, but this was the only place that had them in bulk. My local gunshops all have restrictions on how much you can buy at once.
 
I saw something at Walmart last night that was -almost- surprising. Passed the ammo section and the worker was in the process of opening the first of about 20 cases of ammo to put on the shelf. Looked like some Tula .223, 9mm, and a few other things. Not 20 minutes later I walked back by to see what he'd put out and the ONLY thing left on the shelf was 1 (one) box of the Tula. That and the pile of empty cases. Unbelievable :mad:
