I have acquired a full size 1911 that started as a rock island and supposably been customized by a local gentleman in Denver Co. who has retired the gun has DENVER 45 stamped on the slide it has hallo sights I am just wanting some history on the gun and it's value.

I grew up in Colorado and still get back there regularly. There used to be a shop in Aurora called "Denver 45" but I believe it closed 10-15 years ago -- I've not been there in probably 20 years. It was a Mom-pop operation, mom worked the counter and the old man built and repaired 1911's and whatever in the back. Wasn't much of a store and I don't recall ever seeing a gun marked "Denver 45"

A quick google search came up with this old photo of that store and information that a current store, T.J.'s gunshop, in Denver is registered for business as "Denver 45 llc", though I doubt they are related and have no evidence your pistol originated at either place.

Some pics of the gun would be helpful. Any value it has will be as a shooter, assuming it runs and shoots well and is accurate. Rock Islands don't have any great inherent value and one that has had an unknown amount of work done by an unknown 'smith is likely to be worth less than a new stock RIA. If the work done is outstanding and the gun is a phenomenal shooter you may be able to get new RIA money out of it or a slight (10-20% maybe) premium, if you find somebody that really wants it. The problem being, even if it is amazing, it's still a RIA.
