New guy here, I have a chance to buy a blue 29-8 Mtn gun. Do not know serial #. Said was purchased in 2003. About 200-250 rounds thru it. Is this worth 500.00. Hate to get took on first purchase. Thanks for any info.Paintman

The short answer is yes. If you want it. Price a new S&W and you'll be shocked. I think it's overpriced but it's not out of line for what they get nowadays.

I paid $600 new for mine in 2003. I would do it again with no qualms. It's my favorite revolver. Shhh, not so loud . The 696 might hear.

If you want it, sure.
It may look a bit pricey, but if you consider what S&Ws list for these days, it's about right.
Although you might be able to find a regular 4" 629 for less.

Also, consider the fact that the Mountain Gun is not a standard production run, they don't makes piles of them every year. I got mine 9 years ago and it's one of my favorites.

No, just saw the ad elsewhere. Actually thought about it myself. Never noticed another ad for the 29 MG before.

Good luck!

I hope you like it. I have a 629 MG, and I think it's the cat's meow! I can hit better with it than my 6" Python.

Next time Georgia Arms comes to town, get some of their 240 gr LSWC (1100 FPS) ammo. I've been very happy with that load - does what I want and has all the recoil I can stand for lenghty shooting.

Like I said, I am new to Smiths. But when I saw a few pics and read a little about these MTN guns, I knew I had to have one. Paintman
