Just had to "share" the moment with you all. I just spent 10 min loading a cap and ball revolver... spent another 5 min getting the wedge right so the cylinder would advance.. and over 20 min cooking the dang thing to clean it. But... I was trying to get a point across to my Uncle. I know that the US was won on flint locks and the like but all I had was a cap and ball. I loaded it, six shots, and then stepped outside my back door (It's great here, I'm within springfield and eugene city limits, but not in the city limits... got to be here to enjoy the irony). I fired an "antique" weapon and saw the spit and fire it produced (fired at night). I also heard the impact when my uncle, not intending to, shot the shed. I felt the power, with only 30 gr. isn't much, of what it could do to a brit. I keep the old Black Powder around.. just to remind me that this country was/is based on what it did. If any one has a spare $100 to throw away, get one.. live in our ForeFathers shoes, sort of speak. The only diff. between then and now, I have a house (sort of) to load and ensure the pistol is loaded correctly.... them, they did it out in the field. Mine is an old Navy revolver... more colts and others out there... but, hell, just the feel. Me and my Uncle... we bonded with the Second but more importantly, between ourselves... many great war stories told... the only thing missing... we didn't have the BBQ going. I felt "American" for a short period of time. I felt a bond between relatives now; and relatives then. Could visulize a brit or a deer being downed at the time.... but, only ended up shooting the shed (my Uncle) and a tree (me).
Sorry for the rant or trip into the dark side of reality... but I had to share it with you.
