Inexpensive Conceal Carry Gun

I'm looking for an inexpensive conceal carry gun. I'm currently looking at buying either a S&W 637 or 642. I would prefer the 637 but am scared that the hammer may snag every once and a while. Are there any other guns that you would recommend for $500 or less? If so, which and why?

$500 isn't really "cheap". My Glock 33 only cost me around $535. There are probably 2 dozen good options in that price bracket.

For instance, in 9mm alone you can get S&W, Ruger, Taurus, Armalite, probably CZ if you look hard enough. Those all came from a 2 minutes search on Budsgunshop.com

What i really want is a Kimber SIS Pro, but the gun is really expensive. My conceal carry gun needs to be relatively inexpensive b/c there will be times that I will leave in my truck in Atlanta. I need a gun that if it gets stolen, I won't be too upset over its loss.

If you like the 637, don't let the hammer spur scare you. I carry mine in both an OWB holster and occasionally in an IWB holster and have never had an issue with the spur hanging up. The Airweight's are great carry guns and I don't think you'd regret buying one if a revolver is what you want.

There are good ways to protect your gun when it's left in your vehicle. Hopefully, PlayboyPenguin or another member with good pics will show up and direct you to their recommendation for a good truck safe.

Your on the right track with the 642. If you gun gets stole out of your truck and used to kill a few folks will you then be upset over the loss of it. orchidhunter

Wow, what a contribution.

I think you've finally busted yourself, kid.

You're likely not over 14 years old and have essentially no knowledge of firearms let alone have any social skills.
Please ask you mommy for assistance before posting in the future, and I'm very sorry that you are clearly growing up in a one parent household.

A school counseler would be very helpful. Please get help.

For $500 you can find a ton of excellent carry pistols. Everything from Smith J-frames and Glocks down to the tiny Seecamp LWS.

I would recommend taking a look at the Kahr CW line. They are excellent pistols for the money...excellent period actually. The CW model comes in 9mm, .40S&W, and .45acp versions.

I occasionally carry a Kel-Tec P11 9mm 10 shot clip, cost around $250. I also like snubbies and Glocks but right now I don't own either.

KelTec P11 with belt clip, no holster necessary (unless required by law). ~$250.

EDIT: I see Deet just posted the same exact thing, so there you go.

I agree with the other guys. For $500, you're open to a very large portion of the market - especially if you're willing to buy a used gun. A number of ppl have recommended a 38 revolver and I like them, but I just prefer more shots than that. I keep seeing myself trying to recover after a life-threatening encounter wishing I had more spare ammo because of my adrenaline flush and my elevated terror.

I agree with the idea of a Kel-Tec though. It could be stolen and you wouldn't feel you'd lost a huge investment. And mine's been great.

$500 get you quite a bit of selection!

1. Kahr CW40 , CW9 ($430~$500)

2. S&W SW9VE / SW40VE ($350~$400)

3. S&W Air Weight Snub .38 ($ 430~$480)

4. Ruger P-series 9mm or .40 ($350~$450)

5. Kel-Tec (general under $300)

...and many many more.

Do yourself a favor and at least shoot a Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro.

I've had mine (stainless) for a few years and love it - I have smallish hands and it fits me perfectly, shoots great, nice and compact and nice capacity for such a small .45.

Early versions had issues, but newer versions are sweet shooters.

Here's just one of many good reviews:

One can be had for well under $400.

Good luck!
