arrived today in what appears to be unfired condition (apart from factory test)

No wonder they chose it for James Bond.

PP's are chambered in .32 The PPK is a .380.

Both the PP and PPK have been made in both .32 and .380 as well as .22LR and, very rarely, .25 ACP.

Also, Bond's gun is a .32. It was mentioned in the movie Doctor No as well as several of the Fleming novels that the gun is a 7.65mm. 7.65x17 is of course the European designation for .32 ACP.
 
Also the PPK/S is the PPK slide on a PP frame. I believe this was an attempt to get around some size-based import restrictions.

The PPK did not have enough "points" and was thus banned from importation under the Gun Control Act of 1968. All PPK pistols sold in the U.S. since that time have been made domestically under license from Walther.
