indoor range lighting, visibility

Anyone bring a flashlight to the range to help see the targets? If so, any recommendations? Not one that attaches to the firearm, but rather a normal hand-held type because I'd want to use for other stuff.

I use yellow-tinted lenses in my eye protection which helps, but I think a little extra candlepower would be nice.

I'm thinking I'd just prop it up on the counter in order to point it down range.

Range lighting...

Wow! I have been to a few ranges here in Washington State that had some lighting problems over the years but none that required me to bring a light to shine downrange.

A few had dark spots but if you moved the targets just right it would hit the lighted areas.

I would suggest you talk to the range staff. If you are in need of extra light then they need to update the range lighting - safety hazard and plus you are most likely either paying a membership fee or rental fee for the shooting lane... either way you are a paying customer.

I guess if they ignore you and you can't go to another range. Take a shop light.

On the bright side (sorry for the pun), it can't hurt to learn how to use a flashlight in conjunction with a pistol.

Like with the wrist of the pistol hand stabilized on the forearm of the flashlight hand? I've seen this, is it a real-world tactic, or television show stylistic?

So as to what works... supported or unsupported...

Very common. Helps stabalize the strong hand and is a good technique.

So, what "school" of thought are you? One that believes the light will give your position away.. hence, holding the light away from the body (unsupported)....

Try both and see from an accuracy standpoint which works for you... you should find that the stabilized two hand technique will give you better performance...

From a tactical standpoint... now is that just "tacticool" or is it?

I think certainly it has it's points but I train folks to stabilize their firearm for better shooting...

Well, something to practice and think about.
