Indiana to blame for Illinois problems

Indiana guns land in Illinois

Washington, D.C., October 9–Reportedly federal authorities are now targeting Indiana as one of the nation’s so called ‘source states’ for illegal purchases of firearms used in crimes.

Officials from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Department say weapons purchased in Indiana often end up in Illinois which has tougher gun laws.
Indiana permits residents to keep guns in their homes or businesses without a permit. In addition Indiana state police are required to issue concealed carry permits to residents who do not have a felony conviction or mental health problems.

Wonder how long before Daley sues Indiana.

Didn't find anything about this on the ATF site, so I don't know what "federal authorities" these guys are quoting.

Peace...

Well, KAM, I don't know about you, but I guess I should take the sign out of my front yard that says ... "Illinois Criminals! Get you guns here!" Sheesh!

Y'know, I'm sure that some criminals DO get their guns in Indiana. But let's look at the larger picture--why don't they STAY in Indiana? We do have much worse crime rates than you do, Blueeye. The question is, if the guns are the cause, and you have freer access to guns, why aren't you the ones with the high crime rates?

Don! How dare you bring logic into this argument!!!!????!

Just a matter of time before they say they all came through the 'gunshow loophole'
otherwise they would have been registered and the BATF would have been able to track them to the former owner--.
This reminds me of a case I heard of today
the BATF send a letter to my friend who is a dealer saying their trying to track a gun used in a crime--the gun
a single shot .410 shotgun.
I dont know why but that strikes me as especially odd.Not to mention how it seems they can never get any of these people when they commit a crime or soon their after showing once again that neither federal, state or city LEO's are much of a protection against criminal assault.

Don, you're using logic again! Tisk, tisk, tisk. ;)

You know, the media and anti-gunners here are actually saying that Indiana has the highest crime rate in the Midwest. When they put their display of 30,000 shoes representing the lives lost in a year to gun-violence at the Children's Museum earlier this year, they were saying that Indiana has the highest murder rate of all the Midwest. I got out my handy-dandy facts and figures from the U.S. government. The only Midwest states lower than us on murder rate is Ohio and Kentucky.

(Murders per 100,000 population)
Tennessee 9.5
Illinois 9.2
Missouri 7.9
Michigan 7.8
Indiana 7.3
Kentucky 5.8
Ohio 4.7

So could it be that Don is right? That criminals realize they will get their butts kicked if they mess around in states that can protect themselves, such as Indiana and Kentucky? Nahhhhhhhhh. ;)

Sorry, I've been working on the website ... sarcastic mode is definately ON. :D

Thats it we need to put up a border patrol and inspect each car that crosses our border.

Seriously, people load up on cigarettes here from Illinois and also beer, gas. We have a much lower tax here in fact during the high gas prices this summer a lot of truckers filled up their trucks here.

I thought it was already illegal for people from out of state to purchase a handgun here in Indiana?? Maybe these criminals are breaking the law by lieing on their yellow forms? Nah......criminals always tell the truth.

Ahh HELL NO!!!!!!

This is War.
Oh I can't wait to post the letter I am about to write. No wait. I don't want to melt down UBB. The letter will fit my name...

*Deep breath*

Ok.. ok.. I will try to be calm. But frankly I think of Indiana like most Texans think of Texas. This is my home. We are a half way sane state and these people can take it and shove it.

The problem is that all of you outlaws in Indiana don't have all the needed safegards such as trigger locks, bans on all guns etc. If you would only do these common sense things then Illinois would be a safe place to live? You know, if these people won't take care of this problem themselves then the feds will have to do it for them. This is what they are after.

Don, we don't have your problems because we don't have Chicago. If everyone south of Peoria would secede from Illinois and form their own state, things would probably be a lot better for you.

Eric,

Actually kicking Chicago out of the state has been discussed for years. The Centralia Sentinal newspaper even printed an editorial advocating this several years ago. The editorial was kind of tongue in cheek, but it accurately expressed the senitiments of many in Southern Illinois. Suggested boundries for dividing the state have been I80 and I70.

I think this is another way our society is breaking apart. The large urban socialist paradises always have to blame the conditions in the outlying areas for their problems. Much like the decadent west was the "problem" with the old Soviet Union. I guess if we all would subscribe to the politically correct ways of the large urban areas they would have no problems--YEAH RIGHT!!!

I think there is a growing divide between the large urban megolopolises and the rest of the country. These areas tend to impose their mores on the rest of us. Perhaps Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles etc. should all become states so that the rest of us don't have to put up with laws written to attempt to deal with the problems their socialist policies have created.

As a part time Illinois Peace Officer, I can say that I have not seen anything saying more guns come from Indiana or anyplace else.

I think this report is just some press to generate support for some more restrictive gun laws here in Illinois that are planned to be introduced in the fall veto session of the state legislature.

Personally, I can't wait to find employment in a free state and move out of what is rapidly becoming a socialist workers paradise.

Isnt the city of Chicago under a complete gun ban or is it just handguns (the more dangerous guns, lol)?
When asking friends I met from their about that she simply said -we kept our shotguns
we had to we only had to turn away two thugs with crowbars last year as they broke in. -
Memphis has the most murders and shootings
and murders of any city in TN but we also just happen to have the most public/federal
housing area's.Just a coincidence Im sure.
And I beleive the gun ban for federal housing projects is still in affect.

Chicago "only" bans handguns. Even that is only because Daley knows he can't get the rest. If he could, he'd do it in a second.

And hey, I've been advocating that Chicago can go to hell and any town that votes to go with 'em is welcome to do so with my compliments. Chicago would choke and die without downstate tax money, though, so they wouldn't consider it even if there were any other advantages to it for them. As it is, they have a huge tax base to suck money out of. Without Chicago, we WOULD have concealed carry by now and we could get rid of the stupid waiting periods. I don't know if even downstate gun owners would get rid of the FOIDs, though. They don't interfere with deer hunting.

Indiana has about 6 Million people.

That's 6,000,000

Or 60 * 100,000

7.3 murders/100,000

7.3 * 60 = 438

Now, we ask where did they get 30,000?

Regards,
MP

Sounds like we may have to be contacting our reps again if they try to push legislation through. I guess the backyard just got closer.

MP Freeman, in all fairness, the 30,000 is nationwide and is fairly accurate if you count everyone who was killed in a way that involved a gun--including justifiable homicide, suicides, and such horrible tragedies as getting shot by the cop you were trying to stab to death.

The real lie there was that they claimed that Indiana had the highest murder rate when it was public knowledge that it doesn't--and I didn't hear a single voice in the media say "hey, wait a minute!"

Come on, Don, you're expecting newspapers to be accurate? I've been pestering my local paper, the Detroit News, over their having published an article saying that the MMM march had 750,000 people in Washington, for going on two MONTHS, and they don't even acknowlege recieving my letters; I think they put me on the "Do not open" list when I first documented that they'd published a lie about guns.
