Having a hard time finding the laws for self defense in indiana. Could someone post a link to the state site with the laws and summarize if possible? looking for laws both concering protecting my home and myself/family when away fomr home. Thanks.

I am new to the state of Indiana as well.

I found some info at Packing.org

You could also try looging on the AG site and state police web site. I have not looked at the AG or ISP web site so im not sure if any info is on the site. However I am sure you could contact the AG for info.

Seems to be pretty good laws against being tried for a crime for protecting your dwelling and or self. What about being sued in a civil case by the person who was trying to break into your house or their surviving family members. Does the indiana law protect you against this>

The "Castle Doctrine" simply states that if a criminal breaks into your home, your occupied vehicle or your place of business, you may presume he is there to do bodily harm and you may use any force necessary against him.

Furthermore, this law provides protection from criminal prosecution and civil litigation for those who defend themselves from criminal attack.

I do not think you can be sued in civil litigation. You might want to talk with a lawyer on this.

Sure you can be sued in civil court. Anybody can sue anybody. The perp will never win, probably never even get and attorney to take his case. But if he does the cost of litigation alone could break you. There are no test cases so far on this to see if such suits will be tossed out of court in summary judgement.
