I have a problem any help would be appreciated. I was recently fired from the university of notre dame for having a firearm in my car.nobody was threatened or anything like that.it was locked in my glovebox.yes I have a ccw license.any suggestions?

I would suggest not asking legal questions on an internet forum. With that said, lick your wounds and move on.

I have a suggestion.

I'm not trying to sound snarky here,,,
But you really should consult an attorney.

Preferably one who specializes in Indiana labor law.

We will all have opinions but you need solid legal advice.

Now having said that I will opine a bit,,,
If you want to sue to get your job back that probably won't work.

The university I work for has this in the employee handbook,,,
I will bet a brick of .22 LR that Notre Dame has it in writing as well.

When you knowingly break a written workplace policy,,,
Your dismissal for that is perfectly legitimate.

But like I said before,,,
Consult an attorney for options.

Conoco fired an employee here in Oklahoma for the same thing,,,
He took them to court and eventually won the lawsuit,,,
This resulted in state law banning that policy.

It doesn't initially hold for state universities like mine,,,
But it did eventually prompt a change in state law.

Now, if you have a carry permit,,,
You must be allowed to keep a gun in your car.

Who knows,,,
You might make history there.

Good luck.

As others have said -- if you want to fight this, the first thing you need to do is consult an attorney. If you do, one of the first things they'll tell you is NOT to discuss your case on the internet.

I wish you the best of luck if you decide to challenge your dismissal, and with that said, I'll close this.
