Rome: The insinuation that Rome fell for military reasons is incorrect, it fell for a series of SOCIO-ECONOMIC reasons. Rome's use of it's military served it very well over the course of it's life (many times that of the US).
The term innocent is a fairly new term. Think about World War II; Dresden, Tokyo, and yes even Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The use of the military should be unrestricted in war. Think about the Cold War, we all knew EVERY major city was targeted...innocents you say.
As far as worrying about what the Muslim world thinks; we already know, they want all unbelieving infidels dead. All the PC mumbo jumbo that gets put out about peace and brotherhood is, as I said before, BS.
Muhammed slaughtered all unbelievers, the ones he couldn't kill outright he signed peace agreements with. Then as time passed he strengthened his position, infiltrated his 'allies' camps, and killed them anyway. That's history, we learned all about it back in the 80's while I was USAF intel.
Also, in regards to the 'righteously rising up line', did the US when they killed ours on 9/11? Did we bomb everything when the Palestinians celebrated? What about the USS Cole, Kobar Towers...and on....and on....and on.
Either we fight this like a war and try to win the quickest, some would say most brutal, way possible; or get out of the business. Our military was never meant to be peace keepers, nation builders, or any thing else besides a very big hammer.
The unrestricted use of force has won every war since the beginning of time.
