In need of some new glass

Looking for some new glass for a CZ 527 American in 223. Really cant spend more than $300.00. I have been hearing lots of good things about the Redfield scopes because of the Leupold connection. I was in Cabelas the other day and looked through a few of the Redfield Revolution scopes and was impressed. The one I like is the 4-12x40 with the accu-range reticle. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I have used many Nikon Pro staffs over the years and I have no problem with them. This will be used mostly for target/range. Thanks

The last riflescope I bought was a Sightron, can't remember the model #. Happy with it. Also very happy with my Bushnell Elite.

I actually just sold my redfield to help finance another scope but I had one for about a year and loved it. Never had any problems with it.

I recently purchased 2 scopes. One was a Redfield Revolution, the other was a Sightron SII. I am realy impressed with both, but I must say that my Sightron is just a touch better in low light clarity. But I also prefer the eye relief on my Redfield. One other scope I use is a Swift. If you want to check them out, be sure you check out the Premier ones. They are backed by a lifetime warrenty and in my opinion, a fairly good scope for the money. The only thing I didnt like was the eye relief in les than optimal for my 7mm mag!

SWFA is offering Zeiss Conquest with the Rapid Z-600 reticle for, $299 after mail in rebate. It will be $399 up front but you'll get $100 back in 8+ weeks I'd imagine. If you can swing the extra $100 up front it will get you a pretty good scope.

For $299 it will get you into the new VX2 3-9X40 or VX1 4-12X40. I feel the VX2 is the better deal but the 4-12 at $299 is better than the Redfield IMO. I just bought my daughter a new VX1 2-7X33 and I can't tell the difference between it and my VX-II 2-7X33 but both are a lot better than her 2-7X33 Redfield Revolution that she shoots on her .223 Rem. I have a 4-12X40 Redfield Revolution on my .204 Ruger Encore and it is a decent scope for what I paid for it $180 new, but now being less than $50 less than a Leupold VX1 I'd buy the Leupold.

$299 will get you into a 2.5-10X40 Monarch with mildot reticle, or 4.5-14X40 Coyote at SWFA, or $309 for the Buckmaster 4.5-14X40 SF. I wouldn't hesitate to put any of these on a rifle depending on if you could live with the mildot or varmint BDC reticles. I'd probably opt for them before the cheaper Prostaff but that is still a decent scope for under $300 and available in 4-12 power.

Just another thought, you might want to consider searching craigslist for a good deal on a used scope. I do not buy new scopes any longer because of the savings on like new used scopes that can be bought on craigslist. If you go this route, just be sure that you are buying a scope that has a transferable lifetime warranty such as Leupold, Redfield, Nikon, Burris, Zeiss, Sightron, Vortex...

For 300 bucks you can probably find a 3x9x40 Monarch on sale some place. If not I'd buy another Prostaff, the buckmaster isn't worth any more than the new Prostaff

Big fan of Redfield, I own two Revolutions in 3-9x and 4-12x and they are both great scopes. I prefer the 4-12x though. Both of mine have the Accu-Range reticule.

Nothing but great things to say about them. I can pick squirrels out of trees out to 100 yards with the 4-12x on my .17 HMR and I generally hit them exactly where I am aiming. I make groups at 75 yards that are smaller than a dime with this glass. I am sure I could shoot farther but I don't have the space for longer targets.

I love the accu-range reticule.

Low light clarity is great, I can distinguish a grey squirrel on a grey tree from 85 yards in the early hours of the morning. If I can see my target with it, I can hit my target.

I think you were looking at a 4-12x by the way, im not seeing a 4-14x on their website. In any case, I liked the redfield revolution so much I wanted another. I will probably buy more of their stuff in the future.

I have a Leupold VX III 2-7 on my marlin .44 and a VXII 2-7 on my XT-22. The VX III would be slightly above your price at 300-330 depending on where you are and the VX II I paid about 215. Both come in 3-9 also and I have been very impressed with them.

EDIT: I see a lot of recommendations for redfield. I think I read somewhere that redfield is made by Leupold? I have yet to use a Redfield but I am building an AR currently and was considering one of those also.

I have 3 of the Redfields. (2-7x33mm and 3-9x40mm)
They've been good to me, so far.
Most impressive, to me, was light transmission in low-light conditions. In low light, they're nearly as good as my VX-3, which blows away anything else I've ever put it up against.

Thanks for all the replies. A lot of guys I work with have been really urging me to get a VX-2. I guess if I'm going to be spending $300 I might as well save a little more and buy a scope I really want, not just one I can afford. At first I did want a VX-2 or VX-3 but I talked myself out of it because of price. After reading reviews on the VX-2, I believe I'm sold on them. Probably a nice
4-12x40.

The Redfield is a good scope, but for only slightly more the Leupold VX-1 is much better. If I had a $300 budget I'd get a VX-2 and be done with it. Current Leupold scopes are so much better than anything in the $200-$300 price range it would be foolish to buy anything else.

The VX-II has been discontinued. There are a few still out there for sale at a discount. DO NOT BUY ONE. The VX-2 they replaced it with is far, far, superior and well worth a few dollars more. This years VX-1 is essentially last years VX-II and selling for $100 less. If considering last years VX-II, this years VX-1 is the same scope, but cheaper This years $300 VX-2 is in the same quality range as the Zeiss Conquests that were selling for $550 a few years ago.

I've gotta say that I have been really happy with the Nikon Monarch series and their customer service. I had a Prostaff that had a problem and I sent it in to Nikon. Apparently that particular model had been discontined so they upgraded me to the Monarch which is a great scope.

Weaver V24

You might want to check Natchez Shooters Supply, they have the Weaver V 24 which is a 6-24 x42 for as low as $269.99 depending on which reticule you pick. Just another option for you.

I'd pick up a Vortex Diamondback, and give it a peek-through, they have em at Bass Pro, and Cabelas, they are nice for the money.
I own two Leupold scopes, and my daughter has a VX II 3-9x40 on her Weather Warrior, mine are VX II 4-12x40, and a VXIII 3.5-10x40 Target Tactical.
And I own a Diamondback 4-12x40, it's so clear and bright, very repeatable adjustments, never shifts poi from poa, it's the best scope for the money that I own, it also has that BDC reticle with solid dots, (not like that Nikon). I zeroed it dead on at 100 yds and my first dot under the crosshair is 200 yds, which is pretty close because at 100 yds, it hits about 1.5 inches high, second dot is 300 yds and so on, but I digress.
That VX II 4-12x40 is on my 7mm rem mag, and its sighted in to hit 2.5 inches high at one hundred with three types of bullets, another one hits 3 inches high at one hundred. And I've shot the "box" test and the settings are all repeatable of course, (it's an older scope) it functions like it's supposed to.
So if the OP wasn't confused, I hope he is now. hwehehe:D

I replaced my dead Nikon Monarch with a Leupold VX2, and I most certainly prefer using the VX2 (it's a 6-18). What I did like about the Nikon was the power range of 4-16. All in all, and it's just my opinion, but I'd buy the VX2 over the Nikon any day.

As for a good scope for $300, my Burris FFII in 4.5-14 has been outstanding. I'd buy another one, and I probably will do that soon. When folks talk about a good quality scope for the money, I think Burris. And I've been a Leupold guy for decades, and still prefer that over most others. If I can bring myself to spend the money, instead of the Burris I'd buy a Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40 with the Boone&Crockett BDC lines. I wouldn't worry about the 30mm vs 1 inch tube debate. I'd get the 1 inch.

Lots of good scopes out there for that price range. I have a few Vortex scopes and the Diamondbacks are very decent. Sightron makes a very decent 3x9x40 for around $140 that a few of my friends are rightly talking about. I really like the Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 SF that I put on my .223 varmint rifle. My suggestion is to go somewhere you can check out all the scopes personally, that way you can find one that fits your eyes.

Probably going to get laughed at, but I recently bought a Simmons whitetail 6.5-20 from midway for $110, only used it a couple of times on my 22-250, but I was impressed. Click adjustments were dead on and very repeatable, glass was clear and bright out to the edges. Parallax was right on too. Not enough rounds through it to comment on durability but so far, best $110 bucks I've spent. I'd buy another.
