In a Dilemma Over My LTR

Greetings

While talking with my local firearms emporium earlier today, I got some surprising news. Last week this dealer had found and ordered an LTR in .308 for me. Today he told me that when my LTR arrives next week it will be accompanied by a second LTR in .308. And the weapon is unspoken for.

I had instant visions of having them both in my gun locker, side by side... but that first LTR had cost me $950. The second will cost me the same.

I'd allowed myself $750 - $900 for a Leupold and $250 for mounts and bipod for my LTR project. To purchase the second, I'll have to hold off on the completion of the first LTR and they'll both have to sit 'bare' for a time.

The real question is this: What are your feelings on Remington limiting the LTR to LE only... do you feel the civilian availability will dry up making the purchase of this second LTR worthwhile? Or when I do want to purchase a second LTR <and I do> to build up a top-flight hunting rifle do you believe that obtaining another LTR will be a simple matter of a visit to my dealer?

I keep thinking of all the bans over the years... gone forever.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. Sort of like pizza, should I get one or two?

Darryl

As you have probably noticed from other threads running around here, $950 is a VERY steep price for a .308 700 LTR. Oven on ar15.com there is a CT based dealer that sold three or four of these in the past few weeks for $719.99 a piece!

Heck, if you really have $950 burning a hole in your pocket for the purchase of another rare and nifty .308, find fifty friends for those nine hundred fifty dollars, go over to the Buy, Sell and Trade: Rifles and Shotguns forum and buy that brand new unfired Steyr Scout that Scout 1 has for sale for just $1000.

(My only interest in sending you there to buy that rifle is that if you don't, I just might and my wife will be ticked at yet another rifle entering the house without any others leaving...)

And, if you don't have an FFL to recieve the rifle for you (either the scout or an LTR at a better price), check out www.gunbroker.com's dealer locator or Gunsamerica's transfer dealer locator.

*grumbles*

Remington is not limiting the LTR to Law enforecment only. They were taling about doing that with the PSS but those are not the same rifle. Get the one LTR and get it jazzed up.

Hi Dizzipator

Thanks for checking back. As far as UPS tracking is accurate, the LTR will arrive tomorrow.

I had decided not to purchase the second LTR but figured I'd jump on it if my dealer put the price in line with what I feel it should be. A second LTR sure would have been nice. Not going to happen, this one will be marked higher than the first. Oh well...

But no matter, my new LTR arrives tomorrow and like a kid in a candy store, I've been running around looking at scopes, mounting systems, bipods, cases, etc. Big fun!!!

Take care

Darryl

Well Dizzipator, the LTR arrived today. It was well worth the wait. A beautiful piece of engineering. Now on to the Leupold selection... can't wait to light this one up!

Actually I have two LTRs, but in different calibers. I always wanted a .308, but am too cheap to shoot it as much as I would like so I have a .223 for shooting 80% of the time. One scope(Tasco SS10x42M) with quick release rings serves both, as does one Harris bipod. That was the only way I could justify having both.

I agree that the price is way out of line... However, having two LTR's would rate right up there with having two, ummmmm, well you know. :D

Rainbow, thanks for posting your LTR picture again. I found the 6 pictures you had posted in an earlier thread. I had them set up as wallpaper on my 'puter as motivation during the time my local dealers were saying they couldn't get an LTR... I guess it worked, my LTR is on the dining room table. Now I'm really considering the Leupold 3.5-10x40 M1 in an Iron Brigade mount. That's the neat thing about this rifle. It reeks of class and you want to put classy accessories on it. This one will be well worth it...
