Importing a rifle?

You can do it yourself! (Maybe)

I know that the lead-in to this sounds strange, but if you apply for and receive a Curio/Collector FFL and the weapon qualifies (over 50 years old or a listed curio, etc.) you can do the paperwork through the ATF and can receive the import at your home. This is a reasonably slow process, but it can be accomplished. I do not think that the rules have changed much as I did this for years importing older Winchesters, etc from Austraila.

As a Curio FFL, you will need to keep your records current during the time your license is in effect. Once you let your license lapse, your records are no longer required to be kept current. You are then again under the firearms regulations for the state you are a resident of.

Check into this if you think it will work. Otherwise, you need to go through a licensed (class 1) FFL and fill out the proper forms to import into the USA. The FFL importer will in turn require you fill out a yellow form (4473) for each weapon.
