IMI Ammo, Any Good?

I'm thinking of buying a case of IMI ammo, 45 acp, 230 gr, fmj from Cole Dist. Anyone ever use this stuff? Is it clean? How does it shoot? How does it compare to other practice ammo like Federal AE, CCI Blazer or Lawman, Focci, S&B etc. Thanks for the help, Sam

Its some of the best ball ammo you can find. S&B is nearly as good, and is generally a little cheaper. If you find a good price, go for it.

(I've shot a lot of the 9mm and .45 and really like it. Every once in a while you can find it on sale -- and that's when I get some.)

THE LAST TIME I TRIED TO ORDER IMI AMMO FROM COLE THEY
WERE OUT OF 45ACP. SHE SAID IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH
THE FIGHTING THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON IN ISRAEL. DOES ANYONE
HAVE ANY MORE INFORMATION?

IMI is very high quality ammo.
The reason that they were out of .45 does not have anything to do with military actions in Israel. Israel does not use .45. They use 9mm in their service handguns.

Sam C,

I shoot IMI 45ACP 230 gr ball ammo in my SOCOM and .223 in my AR-15. It is good military quality stuff.

Note that they crimp the primers and seal them. If you reload you will have to remove the primer pocket crimp.

I don't buy from Cole anymore. They don't double pack ammo and the ammo boxes get beat up. I pay a little more from Widener's and the ammo arrives in much better shape.

Thanks for the info folks. Does it burn clean? George, does Wideners have a web address? Thanks, Sam

Sam C,

I cannot say if IMI is any cleaner or dirtier than other ammo I have tried. It does have low flash which is very important for anyone who might need to shoot at night.

Widener's can be found at http://www.wideners.com and at 800-615-3006.

Happy shooting!

Thanks folks. I was thinking either S&B or IMI. IMI is a couple of bucks more than S&B. Do you all think it's worth it? Sam

Has a cat got an ass? IMI is not in the same class with S&B. You can't compare IMI and S&B. That's like asking if a Porche is worth a couple of bucks more than a VW.

Also, FWIW, I find widener's to be competitive with Cole's.

PigPen, What do you like better about IMI vs. S&B (haven't shot either). Thanks, Sam (PS. Your name sounds like my office looks)

I've personally had very good luck with S&B in .45 ACP. My Glock 21 chews it up and spits it out very accurately and dependably in my IDPA matches. The only thing I've ever noticed is that it is a little (and I mean a LITTLE) on the dirty side. That, and the red paint on the primers tends to end up on my thumbs when I charge magazines.

Never shot IMI ammo, but know it by reputation to be good, quality stuff.

Oktagon,

Many civilians in Israel who are in even more danger than most of the soldiers( no bullet proof jeeps) use .45 acp. The conflict has caused prices on ammo and guns -already astronomical- to soar, Plus the fact that IMI is a millitary suplier first means the Military will have their orders filled before civilians.

In terms of cleanness & accuracy, how does it compare to American Eagle, CCI Blazer, S&B etc. Ammo is so expensive, I'm trying to get all the information that I can. Thanks, Sam

Good quality? Are you kidding?

IMI is top notch. I burn nothing but IMI in my select fire
Uzi. I have NEVER had a malf with IMI ammo in it. I usually buy from Widener's when they have a sale. The Uzi eats it as if they were made for each other:)

Brothers & Sisters-at-Arms,
Sam C,
Contact a major distributor like RSR and ask these questions. They do as much analysis as any of us lead slingers is prone to do. (You can find their # in SGN - Shotgun News.)
An e-mail to several popular gun sport magazines might also provide you peace of mind. Krause publications is a great reference. (http://www.krause.com/)
Soldier Of Fortune? Jane's?
IMI builds a high quality round. Period.
You want good? Buy it!
(Bye-the-by, Spartacus, they WERE made for each other!)
