I'm very pleased with a Wal Mart Savage Mk-IIF.

Last year I had a bit of money to burn,,,
So I bought a Savage Mk-IIF bolt rifle from Wal Mart.

This is the one for $147.95,,,
It does not have the Savage Acu-Trigger.

I test fired it with the iron sights one time,,,
Then I put it in the safe to gather dust.

I decided to scope it so I bought a $34.95 scope from Academy,,,
All in all with scope, rings, mounts, and rifle,,,
My total investment was just $200.80.

Two weeks ago I tried to sight the scope,,,
But I wasn't sure if I got it right,,,
It was a very breezy day.

This past Saturday was beautiful shooting weather,,,
So I took the Savage and some American Eagle 36 gr HV HP to my range.

I guess I did a better job sighting the scope than I had thought,,,
Using a cheap plastic front rest and a rolled up jacket,,,
I put every shot either touching or in a 1" dot.

That was at 50 yards distance,,,
So I moved over to the 100 yard range,,,
Almost every shot was touching or in the 3" circle.

I hit 15 clay pigeons in a row.

Now I know you guys will say "so what.",,,
That's not precision shooting at all,,,
In fact it's just so-so shooting.

Well, I'm 64 with old eyes and shaky hands,,,
Maybe a steadier shooter could have done 1 MOA with this rifle.

All I'm saying is this,,,
For a mere $208.80 plus sales tax,,,
I have a 3x9 scoped rifle that is easy to hit with.

So if you were looking for an economical starter rifle,,,
This is a gun you might want to look at.

I bought a used Savage MKII FV-SR with the accu-trigger for $175 and a BSA Sweet .22 for about $50 and it will do the same exact thing. Also picked up a brand new Savage Model 64F for $125 (no accu-trigger) and it is dead on with irons and has been 100% reliable even with Remington golden bullets.

You did excellent and it sounds like it shoots that way as well. Bravo.

I have one without the accutrigger as well and I love it. I took the scope that came with my Remington 597 and put it on the Savage. Great reliable, accurate gun. I've heard the accutrigger is great but I have no complaints about the stock trigger. Its very crisp and breaks clean.

I have a CZ 22, with generic ammo 50 yds 1 inch is good. It has that very good Leupold 22 rimfire scope on it (3-7 x)

I can't do anywhere near that good at 100. I think any slight disturbance takes them off though people claim you can get sub MOA.

If I can get a 3 inch group at 100 even with some match ammo I am happy, so well done.

Something of note, my brother has a Nightforce scope he got on sale.

It has a small circle in the center. I am ok with cross hair but eyes like heavier and hard to shoot light ones.

That little circle is perfect, easily visible, shot a great group with it, worth a though if other scope mfs have equivalent.

Sounds like good shooting to me with an economical rifle and cheap ammo. I'd be happy. 100 yds is a long way for a 22lr. I understand about the not so good eyesight. I have the same problem.

I picked one up a couple years ago in .22 long rife rather than .22 mag. Other than occasionally not extracting, it's a keeper.

Normally I would turn my nose up at a Barska scope but their .22 plinker scope has great reviews and it was cheap enough to toss if it didn't work but it's great on this little rifle. The hard part was tracking down the part number for the Weaver bases but once I had it, they were easy to find. Midway had the bases and quad lock rings on sale at the time so I went with them and I'm pleased with the package...

The scope I mounted is a Simmons,,,

The scope I mounted is a Simmons,,,
The 3x9 was on sale so it only cost $5.00 more than the 4x.

I started a new shooter with this rifle last week,,,
By the end of 100 rounds she was hitting clays (standing) at 25 yards every shot.

The rifle is very basic but points and handles well,,,
I've considered getting a second and keeping it iron sighted.

Next time I want to gift a gun to a graduating student,,,
This rifle is probably what I'll buy for them.

If this young lady keeps up her enthusiasm for shooting,,,
I might buy her one for her upcoming 21st birthday.
