I'm really liking my Sig P220 elite...

ive owned a few 45s in my time... 1911s by kimber, colt, para, ria, then "standard guns" by s&w, ruger, and glock.

but now, I recently acquired a factory recertified police trade in P220 .45 elite in dao. I have to say it seems to be the best 45acp handgun ive shot for all around use.

ive had some that were a little more accurate, some that were finer "tuned" but none that have encompassed the total package, until now.

anyone else prefer the sig p220 45 over others they've had?

I've had several 220's, including the dark elite... I love the feel of the P220.. but for some reason, I've never been able to shoot them well compared to the 229/226 series. Not sure if it's the thin grips or what.

For me, the USP 45 is the top 45. Followed very closely by the M&P 45 mid-size.

Don't have the 220 but wouldn't mind one. I feel the same as you with the 227 carry, it's by far my favorite 45.

Were I to buy a new self-loader...

I would buy a new Sig P220 SA/DA in 10mm Auto. It is the only true "heir apparent" to the S&W Model 1006's throne.

10mm: When you care enough to send the very best, and it absolutely, positively has to be killed immediately!

I have a Sig P220 ST and a P220 Nitron. The ST was a trade-in from the Scottsboro, AL Police Dept. and looks almost new. I won the Nitron NIB at auction). The Nitron was the best price deal of my pistol buying career; although the ST was the best overall score beauty wise.

The ST has noticeably more heft. They are both wonderful pistols. :)
