I'm in love!

Been saving for months! It's finally within my grasp.

Sig P226 Full Nickel 9mm, made in Germany, never been fired. Comes with 4 factory nickel HiCaps - never held a cartridge.

Two questions for everyone:

1) What do you suppose it's worth? I'll tell you what I paid after I see what you all think.

2) Do I shoot it? I'm a "guns are tools" kind of guy, but I'm thinking it might be downright wrong to do anything but savor it's magnificence as an heirloom.

Gotta go shop for exotic wood grips. :)

"Do I shoot it?"

Yes. If not, how do you know it works?

Value is subjective, to me, it's about $600.

a) With the four high caps, $700 - $750.
b) Absolutely shoot it; I don't believe in "mint" collectors items.

There is no such thing as a "never been fired" gun, They all have to be nitro tested I believe..
Shoot it, then shoot it again....
I hope your love is not misguided...
I like the Sigs but LOVE the HK's...
I hope mine is not the forbidden love that dare not speak it's name...
(My wife also LOVES HK)

After Desert Storm, I bought the same gun - came with 2 high cap mags and later purchased one more mag. Thought for years that it would be a keeper, but sold it 2 years ago -- I believe the shop received $795. I had put 500 rds thru it, and had put on Hogue grips.
Actually I find my P239 in .40 to be more accurate and easier to carry -- CCW.

Given the collector's value of a NIB all-nickel P226 and 4 brand new hi-caps, I'd guess $900 easy. Anything less would be quite a bargain. I wouldn't shoot it if I were you, but I'm probably more of the collector mentality.

I think Ether is correct on the value, but I would shoot the hell out of it. I wonder how that finish wears? It should be better than the normal finish.
I almost forgot to tell you that is one of the best looking handguns I have ever seen.

Sig had a little trouble with the nickel flaking on their old guns which, I think, is one reason for them discontinuing it. I know of a couple that were flaking at the muzzle end of the slide and others that flaked a little on the slide rails. This is another reason I'd just as soon bury it in the back of my safe, but there's always a good chance that you'll NEVER have any problems with your finish. Do what ya want, it's your new baby :)

I didn't know that Sig plated the sights too... thats the only thing that makes me think that it might be an aftermarket finish. You may want to double check with people who know more about this gun than I do... you shouldn't have to look far :)

But still, WOW!!!... You know what would make it better though? Having the nomeclature "229" on there instead of "226." ;) Of course thats just a personal preference. Be wary of "NIB" or "Never fired" etc. So what's the price?

Oh yeah.... shoot the hell out of it and enjoy it.
Congrats,
Ben

Yeah the early all-nickel Sigs had nickel all over the place. I'm not aware of any part that went un-nickeled. They're very nice and very collectible.

Wow! That's a pretty gun. I'm not sure I'd shoot it. but it's probably not worth $50.00 :D (the check is in the mail). Seriously, I'd say somewhere around $900.00 or so. I love sigs and the 226 is a great gun! enjoy!

What a beauty! :D I have no idea what it would be worth, but it would be priceless to me if I owned it.

Now these sig's aren't commeratives or have any fancy engraving so I believe they should be used. That being said, I'd baby the hell out of it...no torture test for this gun! But if you're going to keep it behind a case, then I wouldn't change a thing on this gun. You're a lucky guy!

in my neck of the woods, it would be $700 - $750, but could get another hundred if u sold the mags separately. I definitely from the "shoot what you own" camp. I always intend to use what I purchase....Dan in GA

Greetings All; I would speculate that your
weapon is worth $975.00 at the very minimum;
be it NIB!!!")

I'm glad to see the outcome. Interesting difference between SigPhiles (collectors) and Sig-Users (non-collectors).

I paid $975 with the 4 HiCaps, which I felt was right about what I felt this gun was worth.

Will I shoot it? Probably, but not a lot. I baby all my guns, but this one will be extra well cared for.

I thought about getting an heirloom say from a deceaced relative. A gun used by that person would be worth more (sentimental value) IMO. Inheriting a non-fired gun is just a thing, but a used gun is a true heirloom to me.

Anyway that's the scoop. Thanks for all your input. I'll post a review when I get it and -gasp- shoot it! :)

Levelhead,

The one thing you should do to that work of art is go get yourself a nice set of Cocobolo grips from www.getgrips.com, they make a gun look like a damn wonder of the world or something.

A gun like that needs exotic wood for grips, if your not going to shoot it much why not right?

Promise me one thing, if you do get some nice wood grips for that gun make sure you post a before and after pic of it, you will have some people drooling all over themselves.

I put them on my P-239 and could not be happyer.

Good luck
~Jason

LevelHead - You did very well. After doing some digging, I couldn't believe that new factory nickle mags are going for upwards of $100 now. And even though you usually get a little better deal on mags when you buy them with a gun, my guesstimate was way conservative. Another thing I always thought was a nice touch on the old nickel guns is that the dots on the sights are orange instead of white so they stand out better. I can kinda make out the dot on the front sight in the pic.
