I'm in a pickle. Steven's or Boito?

I was in my local gun shop recently & noticed a lovely looking double barrell shotgun. It was a Steven's 12 gauge. I believe the barrell was 28" long. They wanted $350 for it.

Then I looked beside it & saw a Boito SxS that was also a 12 gauge. They wanted $250 for it. Now I have always wanted a double barrell shotgun since I saw "Big Jake". I just don't know which is better. Any suggestions?

They also just got a 6-shot Maverick 88 in for $170 with shoulder stock.

I like the capacity of the 88 but the double barrell just seems beautiful to me & it looks like it would be easier to clean. Is it? My account is still recovering from my Hi-Point purchase so it'll be around the end of this month when I can afford the Maverick but it will be around the end of January when I could afford the Boito. The end of February before I could afford the Steven's:( . I could put the one I want on Lay-away though if I figure out which one I want. This gun will be used for HD.

Any opinions are welcome. Thanks for the advice.:)

I frequently see Steven SxSs around. $350 seems kinda steep. In Michigan you could pick one up for $250. Good solid SxS. Don't know about the Biotas.
 
I'd go with the Stevens, but that's just me. My first shotgun was a 410 Stevens single shot and I've always had a love for them ever since.

Want to send me one:D ? I have seen some Stoeger Uplanders for $250 around here but I heard they were bad.

EDIT: Is there anyway a moderator could make this a poll between Stoeger, Steven's & Biota?
 
If every Boito is like the one I have go for the Stevens. I have several Stevens, Springfield and a Crescent S/Ss and have never had a problem with any of them.
 
Go with the Stevens. The Boito, (has been my experience) the inner stacking principle, hammers, sears etc, are stamped parts and the tinsil strength (hardness of the metal) is minimal, causing considerable wear and early replacement of the internal mechanism. Repairing one is a night mare, They look pretty good, don't shoot worty a flip.

I am assuming the Stevens is a Model 311 or a dirivitive of that Model. A very good utility gun and will last a long time. I have owned mine for some 40 years and only had to replace one trigger. Parts are readibly available for the Stevens. if you need them. On the Boito, you may have to hand fit the part to get it to work.

Double is easier, the barrels just lift out, very easy. BUT that shouldn't be why you decide to get it.

If these are new guns, the stevens would be the 411, and it is made in Russia. The older Stevens 311's were made in the U.S. Not that its bad, its a Bakil (sp) the same as Remington is now selling as Spartan.

For HD though I would not get that gun. Its just too big.
The Mav. is much better for that use AND you have 4 more shots with it. ON top of that you can buy a longer barrel from mossberg and use it for trap too if you felt like it. Make it a multi use gun.

If you really want a double for HD, look for a coach gun. The will have 18-20 inch barrels. Stoeger makes a few kinds, a lot of people use them for cowboy shooting. Many other companies make them too
I don't know anything first hand about the quality of Stoeger I am looking into the uplander my self, in .410:D .
