I'm gonna miss those non +P Nyclads...

For years those non +P Nyclads are all I've shot from my late 1970's S&W model 36. It's not rated for +P ammunition. I looked at the .38 Special caliber ammo last saturday in a big gun shop and the only non +P JHP ammunition in stock was Federal Hydra-Shok "PD". (Bummer.) I just looked in my Georgia Arms catalog and they show some .38 Special non +P JHP 125gr for $18.50 per 100. Since I've never heard a bad thing regarding these reloads, I guess I'll try some. It'd be nice to read a few posts from people who have tried these .38 Special, non +P's from G-A though. Hint, hint.

Agreed about the non +P Nyclads. I prefer them in my J-frame carry gun. A couple of months ago I bought a half-dozen boxes, which was all I could find and afford at the time. After they're gone, I may switch to the PD Hydra-Shok as a defense round.

I don't know if his page isn't updated, or if they're more than you want to pay, but I think you can still get non-+p nyclads (at least for the time being) at ammoman.com

Federal 38 Spl. 125-gr. JHP Nyclad, $15.95 for 50 rounds, "closeout" price.

Or call 1-800-251-7839. They are open 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. EST on Saturday (today).

Is poor sales the reason for Federals discontinuance of the non-+P, or is there another story? I've been using around 250-400 rounds a year for my J's, and will sorely miss it . I have always felt it was a great round for the lightweight snubbies.

LBC...

Thanks for the link and I'll order some Nyclads at this good price tomorrow morning.

DsgrntldPW: My contact at Federal told me that the non +P Nyclads just did NOT sell well enough to be kept in production. However, I wonder. A while ago, there was a post here which stated that police forensic departments didn't like Nyclad's because the recovered bullets were difficult to match to any gun that had fired them due to the nylon coating.

non +p in Colorado

So far we havent seen any lack of non + p here. I picked up 1000 rounds at the gun show yesterday. I also carry a 36 Chiefs Special with a 3 inch tube, and it really likes that load.
