This scope is attached to a custom built BSA Martini Cadet chamberd to 22Hornet and comes with a proof target with a 7/8ths group shot at 110yds. The scope is an Unertl Varment model, slightly shorter (19.5") than the 2ft long target scopes. It appears to be a 10X and the optics are excellent, but it has one feature that I've never encounterd before, a bullet drop/rangefinder reticle, the horizontal crosshair in the scope is double and the top hair appears to adjust for varying heights, so is probably a range/bullet drop calculating device. Once the weapon and it's attached scope and mounts are clear of California's 11day waiting period...I'll be able to shoot it and eventually figure the sights out - but, if in the meantime, someone in these forums has experience with these excellent old externally adjusted scopes, I'd really like to hear your input and experiences.

Oh no Zip!

Zip :cool::

These scopes are not sealed or waterproof. They are long and heavy. Beware! Better catch me on the .22World board and I'll buy it from you so you can get a good BSA or other waterproof cheap scope.

You lucky dog!!! They are superb pieces of American workmanship.

;)

PS: They look and work real nice on the H&R M12.

*Heh* Hi Bill!

This is an "Eat your heart out" post:D
The whole package is going to cost me $550 + fee & tax!

I know, I know, the bloody scope alone is worth more than the rifle, Fajen presentation grade walnut stock and all:rolleyes: !

I'm no expert on Unertls, but this one has been very well taken care of, and the test target is impressive...7/8th inch with factory
45gr ammo at 110yds...Very nice package indeed:D Did I mention the Unertl dehorned mounts?;)

21" X1" SSbarrel on a nicely reblued and reworked (cocking lever)
BSA Cadet action.

The seller was an avid varment shooter who had a late-in-life conversion to very expensive SXS shotguns:) He wants a Purdy as bad as I want an Unertl-mounted Martini in .22 Hornet.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now & then :D

Hi Bill! (AKA 700PSS)

Thanks for the link to the Unertl dealer.
It's the same one I've had bookmarked for the last 2 yrs.
I don't visit there very often, as I get an attack of hives
every time I do.;)
Went and took a look, and it turns out that what I'm getting is
the Calibrated head model with a Range finding reticle, which was an extra on the original order.
Then I had a look at what the guy wanted for one of these wonders...had an attack of hysterical giggeling...and got out fast!:D :D :D

If you have more questions, you might want to ask over at benchrest.com - There may be someone there who'll know...

I don't know if this is a good deal, but I think I did OK, I picked up a K98 sporterize. Little pitting on the barrel, nice clean wood stock(no scratches or dings), overall nice condition. The 8mm came with a 4X unertl scope called the "hawk". Total package was $170. The scope is in well used condition with dings but the glass is clear and no damage. The rifle still shows the Nazi proof marks.
