I'm driving in my Kahr, I turn on the radio

Sounds like it ought to be a song. Anyhow if car is to gun and engine is to caliber, etc. then I submit the following:
a Para-Ordnance P14.45 is a Suburban (with a V8 of course), a Para-Ordnance P13.45 is a Tahoe, a P13.45 in stainless is a Tahoe with 4WD, a Jennings is a Yugo, Glocks can't be Lamborghinis or Ferraris, but whatever a Glock is, it has to have a sunroof because sunroofs "leak" (and I've got pictures to prove it), Kimbers might be Jeep Wranglers because their doors don't stay open even when empty and Steyr M9s and M40s might be Volvos because of all the safety features. If a BMW 540 is the best readily available (but not necessarily affordable) production sedan in the world, what is the corresponding gun? a Colt Python or H&K P7? I don't know where I am going with this or why but feel free to add your own or slam my choices :)

I'd say a Glock 21 is more like a Hummer, large and dang near indestructable. A 1911 is a Ferrari, fierce when running right but sometimes hard to keep in tune(I happen to love 1911s before the flames start). A Sig is a Porsche, a well made, fine machine with a few flaws.

Sig P228 is a Black Mercedes,without peer.Kahr K9 Elite just like a Silver Porsche,walkin'on the +P wild side. Personal experience. :)

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."

I consider my Glock 32 to be a good comparison to my BMW Mcoupe- not gorgeous, but tight, reliable, efficient, both look very purpose oriented- the car (too drive fast), gun (to shoot consistantly without fail)- no gadgetry.

I'm a bit wacky.

I'd say the 1911s are like Cadillacs or Lincolns. They may not be the newest high-zoot technology but they are a reliable and classy way to get the job done.

Kel-Tec P-11 is a Honda Civic.

The H&K SOCOM is the real Hummer -- too large to be practical in a lot of situations, priced in the upper altitudes, and military chic.

2-inch S&W J-frames are like Geo Metros -- the most basic reliable tool for the job.

Glocks as BMWs and Berettas as Ferarris strikes me as appropriate. SIGs are Mercedes-Benzes. Walthers are Audis. The Tanfoglio/Witness 10MM is the Lamborghini, big and loud.

The Colt Single Action Army is your basic work pickup truck.

The Steyr M Series is like the new Mitsubishi Eclipse -- handsome in a swoopy way, not out long enough to see if it's the real goods underneath.

OOOOOOh I'd consider the H&K SOCOM do be the direct descendant of a finley tuned german sport auto-PORSCHE/BMW 750.

The GLOCK would be the hummer, big, chunky, clumsy and not the apitomy of presicion.

I agree on the 1911/Ferrarri, very finicky but great when running.

Naw... 1911s are your American Muscle Cars...
GTO's Camero's Mustangs, hell - even Nova's and those old Olds Cutlas Supreams...
Which ever model you favor - you can tune the gun to that flavor.

You might laugh in the face of FEAR... but unless your armed, its a nervous, unconvincing, little laugh.

The way I always thought of the guns to cars analogy was this:

Glocks= Volvos. Very reliable, but drab in a utilitarian way...boxy looking. :)

H&Ks= Mercedes Benz. Classy and reliable, does everything you need it to do, but a little too much for most people.

Sigs= BMWs. Very sleek and refined. Fits like a glove.

Ruger (autos)= Ford Taurus. Reliable, but really plain, selling point is its value.

CZs= Audis. Not as popular as the others, but unbelievable in the way it handles, very sleek.

I agree with George, the 1911 is like the American Muscle cars.

What would a Super RedHawk .454 be? a tank :D

Kahr MK40; AC Shelby Cobra, yeah yeah

S&W(pre-sellout) .357mag; Caprice classic or Crown Vickie?

1911's are junkers Chevys!
If you put a new engine in it and pay a high-priced mechanic to tune it up every weekend and don't mind when it stalls once in a while, then you are a junker Chevy fan.

On the other hand if you want a Mercedes or a Rolls, get a Sig or Glock. Starts every time, needs no accessories and runs forever without a hiccup!

Be objective! Have you ever seen an evaluation in a gun magazine on ANY 45 where there was not some kind of feeding problem that required repair?

I am objective and I've seen many 1911s straight out of the box that were totally reliable. And like any good hot rod they can be customized to your taste. I like to think of them as a Mustang Boss 351.

Of course there are a good number of "shade tree mechanics" out there who could screw up a Rolls Royce and then blame it on the car.

Okay, I'm voting for what I think are the best answers to date:

Suckersrus and George Hill win my vote in the 1911 category. The 1911 is a junker Chevy, but that junker Chevy HAS to be a muscle car.

In the Glock category, Kenshi scores. Glocks are Volvos. I think he was also right about Rugers being Ford Tauruses (Tauri??).

I think David Scott was right when he called Berettas Ferarris.

The consensus vote for Sigs as BMWs or Mercedes seems right to me.

Phillip wins my vote in the HK category. It's a Dodge all right: a tough looking rig with sleek lines.

My vote in the S&W category is for my own vehicle. The keys are always missing or locked inside when I need to use it. ;)

And as for DaHaMac's mention of the .454 Super RedHawk as a tank, it cracked me up. But then, that's a tank's job, isn't it?

Special thanks to bubbaturbo for hosting this event, and to TFL for sponsoring it. :)
