I'm being sorely tempted again,,,

A few months back I was all hot to buy a S&W 317 Kit Gun,,,
That's the alloy framed .22 with 3" barrel and fiber optic sights,,,
The only problem was there were none of them to be found anywhere.

The Evil Pawn Shop Guy tried for weeks to find a new one for me,,,
We finally gave up and I put it out of my mind.

Yesterday I went to The Evil Pawn Shop to say hello and prowl around,,,
Lo and behold there was a used Model 317 with 3" barrel,,,
It isn't the kit gun with fiber optic sights though.

The little gun weighed absolutely nothing in my hand,,,
And I even liked the factory rubber grips it wore.

He's asking $459.00 for the little 8-shooter,,,
It's MSRP is $700.00 to $750.00 for a new specimen,,,
I'm seriously considering adding "just one more" .22 to the safe. :o

A person can only resist temptation for so long .. . it's crying out your name . . . it's lonely . . . you might as well give in and get it over with!:D

Just remember though. . . we will want to see pictures!

I have the 3" 317 with the fiber optic front sight. I LOVE the gun, HATE the front sight. The new sight system uses a ROUNDED TOP fiber front sight, and a "V" notch rear sight. This makes a very accurate revolver, very hard to shoot accurately, for me anyway. The older sight style like the one your shop has, is MUCH better IMHO. The 3" 317 is an amazing revolver. Grab that one, as there will be no reason to change the sights. $459 is a decent price, I paid $679 for mine, and need to add the cost of changing the front sight to that.

I have the 2 inch version of that gun, and it's truly a fun gun to plink with. For hiking you can throw that gun in your pocket and not even notice it, ultra lightweight.

I simply loathe the fiber-optic sights. I think they look horrendous and I really don't care for the sight picture they offer. I'd be far happier with the standard sights... and I -really- like the price your EPG has on that revolver.

"kit guns" are too hard for me to walk away from if I have the money in my pocket.... a snub .22lr is a cool little gun, and a S&W is a quality one at that. id say for the price you posted.... to go for it.

Oh, yes. The trigger.

I traded away an early pre-lock ladysmith-marked 317 years ago and my wife missed it until I managed to find another.

Then I remembered why I'd traded it.

The only thing that keeps it from being the worst double action trigger I've experienced is my very own 1895 Nagant.

Cute little things, though. Light enough you don't know it's there and functional for the odd feral dog or cat on your nature walk.

But that trigger... Oooh.

Of course, if I didn't already have one, I'd want one :D.

The point became moot,,,

The point became moot,,,
I walked into the EPS this morning,,,
Just in time to watch him ring it up for someone else.

I wasn't going to buy it this morning,,,
But I was going to put a $100 down payment on it.

I'm torn about this,,,
I don't know whether to say "Dang!",,,
Or "Whew, I barely dodged the bullet this time."

I too think the fiber optic sights are somewhat ugly,,,
But every time I pick up a gun with them,,,
I really like the visibility of them.

Oh well,,,
Next time maybe.

You see the opportunity. You assess the situation. If it was a "MUST BUY", you'd have done it 15 seconds after you saw it, but it wasn't. It needed to be considered.

It wasn't meant to be...and all is right in the world! ;)

The real test comes NOW, because now you'll have a little "devil Aarond" on your shoulder that might make you LEAP on the next one before you LOOK.

So this one is history, no big deal. The next one is the test!

I learned a long time ago that money is just money. I will make more, but guns are special. I may not get another chance to own said gun, but I will have more money. I buy them when I see them.

That's a valid game plan if it works for you. It doesn't work for me.

For me, it's not about the actual dollar amount, it's about how I feel about the deal. If I can hash it out in my head and it -IS- the right deal, for all the reasons, then the price doesn't matter. Doesn't matter if 6 months later, BETTER deals on same/similar thing presents itself.

However, if I try and just say "meh, it's only money..." and I feel like I didn't hash it out well with my own process, I remember each time I pick it up that I was lazy and I didn't chase it down in the way I like to.

Money is a funny thing depending on your view. We all have our own opinions... and they are opinions, one is no more "right" than the next, but it's got to work for you. I am one of those who gets paid by the hour for physical work. Money is, for me, a tangible representation of time and effort. I get sore & awfully filthy earning it. So when I go to spend it, I don't look it it like it's a little run of paper in my wallet or a number on a bank statement. Rather, it's what I did with those 11 or 12 hours a day from Monday thru Friday. It's good for me that I like what I do, but it's miles from easy.

Meh, I'm drifting. A good gun deal for me is one that works for me. I take pride in those deals. :)

If you don't nab a desired item like that and any part of you says "Whew, I barely dodged a bullet"... you didn't really want it.

So I guess that one worked out for you.

Especially at that price. I don't think you'll run into one quite that cheap ever again, unless you are extremely lucky.
