I'm back! Saiga-12 hunting report.

Well I just got back from hunting up north, had a blast and really had a chance to give my new (not new now) saiga-12 a good shake down. I did not have a single mis-feed jam or any other problem with my Saiga-12.

I shot eight ruffed grouse (best I have done)
I shot my limit of squirrel and even duck hunted a bit with it (I would take a tube magazine that held two rounds over a stick magazine with two rounds).

The gun handled great and I had less of a problem with fatigue than with anything else, I have been playing with it since June so it has something like 700 rounds through it. I had over a dozen people ask where they could buy one after I gave them a run down on what it was (having your bag limit in hand is the real seller).

I have used quite a number of shotguns hunting and this one is the best I have used. And no I did not get the gun for free nor am I getting a dime for using it, I paid for it and converted it to pistol grip myself.

Sadly I have only one picture of the gun with a bird, I know I took more but they are not on the SD card.

I've kind'a been looking for one in 12 ga. I've seen only one
(it was too rich for me). I've found many in 20, even more in 410.

Want to sell yours? Just kidding,
but I'd love to have one.

Hey the 20 is not a bad gun at all, my brother has one and there is a big weight difference and it was WAY easier to convert to a pistol grip. The 12 has a funny mag release whereas the 20 has a more standard AK mag release, so all you need to do is turn the trigger guard around and tack it in place, on the 12 I had to do a little fancy welding to make mine.

Hunting with it was a blast, and as my uncle said "The face of hunting has changed!".

700 rounds through it, eh? i've got about 40 thru my saiga-12 (22" barrel) on gas setting "1" shooting win cheapo 8-shot 3".... jams less and less the more i shoot it.... does your saiga 12 with 700 rds thru it still jam?

Sorry, but for water fowl, there is a 3 round limit in a shotgun. Two in the magazine, one in the chamber. It's a Federal Regulation and many states have adopted it to include Upland Game. Interestingly, in Nevada, there is no magazine capacity for Upland Game.

And that was the post that contributed meaningful information to this very old and very much dead thread?

first time for me

I've never seen it.

Something about a com-bloc hunting shotgun based on an AK design is intriguing. I've often joked that the .410 might be the ultimate bunny blaster!
And the short bbl. 12 w/ a super full might be the world's toughest turkey gun, but probably to heavy. The 12's are selling for $700 + in my area, and I've got all the shotgun I need in an 870. Still it'd be fun to see the look on a huntin' buddies face when you got out of the truck w/ a Saiga!
