I'm Back, or I Survined the Great Wall

Did you get those nuke-sercrets? It's only fair. They get some of our's, we get some of their's.

Yeah, like China has any nuke secrets we'd want... ;)

Welcome back! Did the Great Wall survive you? (Bet it'd make a hella backstop!) ;)

You kidding there's tons of guns there. There are soldiers and police that carry them all over the place. Duh! lol

Welcome back, Hardball. I just got back Last Friday from 3 weeks overseas myself- I was working in my company's London office.

Welcome back Hard Ball.

Did you see the Airport guard with SKS wearing cheap cotton green uniform when you got off the ramp? Guess what, those SKS are not loaded  How about those guards at the front gates of large factories? Guess what those pistols are not real... those are gas guns  Finally those military police at tourist sights with pistols, they don't carry ammos either unless they are officers. Only armed (with real ammo) guys are military officers and internal security police.

Great country to visit but not a great place to live. I should know, I used to spend 3 weeks in April and 4-6 weeks in October in China every years for 6 years. I even got to see one of the Norinco factory near Harbin that makes some small parts for AK. Same factory made Black & Decker tools and door knobs for an American company. Another Norinco factory I visited made handgrnade casing and office furniture. Last I heard Norinco employeed over 2 million Chinese.

Tamara is right as she usualy is. TheG reat Wall would make an outstanding back stop. It is made of densely packed earth surrounded by stone walls. You could fire small arms at it forever without doing any significant harm. However, there are numerous signs posted in Chinese and English threatening dire penalties for anyone who defaces the wall. This includes chipping off pieces, carving your name, or writing graffiti.

:( (fidgeting around, trying to look nonchalant....hiding chunk of Great Wall behind diskette box)

I have to admit I have a small piece from the Great Wall on a shelf as well. "Is that a piece of the Great Wall in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" :)

I lived in China for 5 years (1993-1998) and worked on the flight lines of several airports there as I was involved with the commercial airline industry there. Part of that time was spent in a place called Hohhot (Inner Mongolia province) where the PLA guys carrying AK's made sure I knew they were watching me as I crawled around their airplanes. Didn't know if the weapons were loaded or not. Didn't want to find out. I always managed to get just an ever so slight smile from them when I'd smile, wave, and yell, "Nihao, Nihao!"

"World's Only Firing Range Visible From Space!" With the Chinese government so eager to take a crack at some weird kind of central-command-capitalism, maybe we could convince them there's a market for this? ;)

("But, Mr. Premier, I know where we can get 7300+ customers right away! And there's an internet tie-in!" This really shouldn't be too hard to sell, come to think of it... :D )

I like Tamara's proposal. If the PRC adopts her plan I w'll certainly buy a piece.
Incidentally, I was surprised to learn that the Chinese don't call it the "Great" Wall but instead call it the "Long Wall. Since it is over 4,000 miles long I can see their point.
